(02 Nov 2013, 7:08 pm)Tom I am not using the Metro system anymore, it's a joke. I decided to get the Metro from Monument to Wallsend, but guess what? It was delayed! There was an announcement saying: ''We are sorry for any incovenience caused. This disruption is due to low rail adhesion. The next train will leave St James in 15 minutes.'' After 20 minutes there was no sign of any train, and there was a similar announcement still saying 15 minutes. So I just walked out and got the 22!
It's a bloody joke!

We don't often have good things to say about the Metro network, but I'm very impressed with the young blonde driver on 4085 (the 0714am service from Park Lane to Newcastle). On this very cold Sunday morning where services are on a frequency of every 30 minutes, the ticket machines were not working at a platform. She spoke to the man who was unable to buy a ticket through her window, and despite his reluctance to accept, she let him on for free. Got in touch with control immediately, and got out of her cab to reassure the man that the inspectors would not fine him for not holding a ticket.
Great deal of wheelspin between Pelaw and Gateshead as always... leaves on the line! That said, she's still on time and managing well.

Will staff be on hand from 5am until 1am for U16 POP card users and those who require a staff member to open the gate for them, if they cannot use the gates by 'touching in' or 'touching out' yet?

Suspect if peak queues develop (to the point of potentially compromising safety) the barriers will be manually overriden. Otherwise will be very sticky from a fire regs perspective.
If you like a nice pint, if you manage to get through the gates and if there is a train running - have a look at this site (www.tyneandbeermetro.com).
