Newcastle Clean Air Zone: services which need to be upgraded
The Volvo Olympians were stirling performers on the X10 (and X9).
Spectras were trialled for a little bit but their London Spec meant their top speed was a bit low.
Then before that you had Cummins L10 Olympians on the X10, but age was a factor in taking them off.
Before that the X1/X10 when United / Tees and Northern it was a mixture of Olympians (Cummins from Go and Gardener from NEB), Metrobuses (Go Only), Tigers (Both), and prob the odd Leyland National Mk2 from Go-Ahead too.
(05 Mar 2020, 10:33 pm)L469 YVK In the live Q&A, it was mentioned that the X1 PVR is 14. I've had a look and it's actually 13 unless the 14th is a misc working which will be allocated an X-Lines E400MMC to ensure consistency.
(03 Mar 2020, 8:45 pm)Citaro5326 So just been thinking with CAZ coming very soon the 26/27/57 need to get replacements and what i am thinking was 5442-5451 & 5463-5480 head to riverside and send the citaro's to Hownsgill and Deptford, in a way downgrade but same spec ?

(14 Mar 2020, 10:27 pm)Citaro5326 I'm starting to think Mercs to go on 5/50 & 2/2A/39 & 16/16A but doesn't look good.If Black Cats and Diamond's are Euro 6, they'll almost certainly be reallocated onto a route which goes into the CAZ. 6/12 and 26/27 would be the obvious choice. I still think the replacement for the Crusaders should be the Red Arrow B9s. PVR would be an issue unless they cut the 26 short.

It's a narural route to move the mercs onto.
Mercs unlikely to be allocated to the 5/50 due to the Omnicities now being Euro 6

(15 Mar 2020, 8:55 am)JP6004 The funding was provided by south Tyneside council to upgrade these to euro 6. They have to be allocated to this route for minimum of 3yrs. Believe Dan said they could be reallocated if new new euro 6 buses were purchased for the routeWhich is unlikely to happen due to how quiet the route can be, certainly doesn't warrant new buses although I would like to see the Mercs of the 4 go on there after they're replaced but that I'm afraid is likely to be wishful thinking.

I'd like to see the B5Hs to be reallocated to 50 some point in future. As they short wheelbase, be ideal providing extra capacity but also being more cost effective. While also maintaining euro 6 emission (once the new engines are fitted)

The 5 certainly doesn't warrant DD so if they no longer interwork a capacity downgrade for the 5 would be more likely.

Also euro 6 is being stipulated as a requirement for an increasing number of services outside of the Newcastle CAZ

Loads are usually good on the Durham - Washington stretch but I can't see it being upgraded like the 97s.

Wonder if Clean Air Zone will be postponed in 2021 in Newcastle as lots of smaller companies will unlikely have funds to invest in Euro 6 vehicles now. Aswell as companies alike Arriva who will suffer significantly as a result of their lack of investment in the North East...

It really feels like we have gone back in time with Sunderland services 2 and 39s. Versa and solo come on go north east what you playing at? Versas are cramped and destination displays you can’t even read in daylight. It’s like we’ve gone back 10 years to when they were simplicity. And mini links as we call them on the 39s. I dread these buses when the schools come out!!
Proves Sunderland passengers are second class over Newcastle. We deserve better.

Look in Sunderland, Drifter/56/50/9 and all the old Citaros which they got due to Newcastle Euro 6 Limit. The Sunderland District are half arsed attempt to bring passengers back. Where as in Newcaslte/Consett they get wireless charging. I don't see any new buses coming to Sunderland for 4 years. While GNE are busy in Newcastle. They'll probs take all the euro 6 buses off Sunderland.
