Not sure they give passengers desire either. Particularly if the rumours of cuts and consolidation are true.

I only think for branded routes Little Pinks & Sunderland & District & Peterlee Purples will be unbranded.

I mean I think we all know Sunderland & District brand was stupid, no desire or idea apart from maybe a few berries and name it berries. Or One Cherry

I'm imagining I'm a CEO of GAG. I'm looking at my divisions and look towards my NE division. I see a network that is shrinking in size and popularity.
I'm looking at decision makers and influencers and I'm trying to see what improvements have been made as a result of their efforts.

Am I seeing growth? Am I seeing teams adapt to changing travel patterns and implement changes which have a positive impact on passenger levels or the balance sheet? Am I seeing expenditure in certain areas increase? Is that expenditure giving positive results?

None of them! but then again I'm a cynical sod that's not easily impressed by flashy gimmicks.

The very idea of using phrases like desire is enough to make my skin crawl and the sentiments are not used by anybody not in the industry or at least act like they are, can use these phrases all you want but it only takes something like one annoying drunk to get on a bus and the very idea of a bus being desirous is gone, especially when half the bottle of his plonk is now on the floor.

Not a GNE livery, but the only livery creating 'desire'. whatever that means, is those little grey buses that operate around the hinterlands of Western Gateshead. As a passenger, I know its a pretty stable network and I suspect we will be seeing more additions to the network later in the year.

In most businesses the management would have changed.

There badly needs to be some fresh heads and fresh ideas up here  and it runs at the level above with the likes of Tobyn Hughes given the boot. How the heck he got a promotion when he ruined the Metro is a mystery and Gannon aswell while we're at it. 

There's way too much back patting it's almost as some of them are in a different reality of how shockingly bad public transport is up here.

My barber told me that since the 67/69 are getting binned, they'll probably add that to the network is some form.

Probably the 28a/28b/29 too, serving the Kibblesworth and Team Valley Gateshead. However, if a gap was really to be exploited, they'd serve Team Valley Sunderland where there's a nice little bacon butty shop, so I'm told.

I think the OP has used the term 'desire' when what they really mean is 'favourite'.

According to the Collins English Dictionary, A 'desire' is a 'strong wish to do or have something' (noun); or 'if you want something, you desire it' (verb). Since the OP has expressed neither a wish nor a want, and instead compiled a list of branded buses without any real explanation as to why they 'create desire' for themselves, one can only conclude that it is a list of their favourite brands - not ones that 'create desire' in any way, shape or form. 

So, I guess, to redefine the question more clearly, which GNE liveries offer or promote something that the customers wants, and which GNE liveries might cultivate the customer to express a strong wish to leave the car at home and switch to public transport?

Can liveries alone really offer 'desire'?

For balance, I've just been on a Best Impressions branded non GNE vehicle and a couple that don't appear to be regular bus users given what they asked the driver commented on the presentation of the vehicle being "nice" and "you can even charge your phone on it". That's what I would call a good first "impression"

I don't think liveries give anyone 'desire', apart from a notable designer and his friendship group. If they were desirable by definition (as Andreos1 has pasted above), then we wouldn't have declining passenger numbers. Even pre-pandemic, I don't think there was any hard evidence that branding resulted in organic growth. On the most part, people used a 'desirable' branded bus, because they had no choice.

Much is made of Zap, Witchway or the 36 that Transdev run, but if you start using other parts of their network, its chalk and cheese in comparison. Burnley are still running some 22-year old B10BLEs in front-line service, which I'd suggest are about as desirable as a hole in the head to any non-enthusiast.

On the flipside, I think some of the innovations inside of a bus are more likely to encourage people to use them, e.g. comfortable seating and charging points, but it has to be part of a package. Fares and convenience are a much bigger part of that package, and on the most-part something that operators struggle to get right.

Tbh, I find their B10s not too bad from the inside and out although your point still stands with other bits of the network, the worst being Keighley services 60 & 66 as they have branded B9TLs that they like to shout about being #Amazing although at peak times the journeys are supplemented by Y reg Presidents with one of the most dark & gloomy interiors I've come across and haven't been retrimmed in that 20 years so many of the seats are as flat as pancakes, they also often stand in when the branded buses are unavailable.

Not everyone's expectations are the same, I'm pretty fine providing its somewhat comfortable, that said... the bus could look Blenheim Palace on wheels but if its not somewhat reliable or costs a small fortune people aren't likely to stick around if they can help it.
