So. the 794 originally ran between Consett and Longbenton DHSS, I believe, and the 602 obviously ran between Newcastle and Hexham. Presumably, it won't be doing the 870 (forerunner to the present 689) between Hexham and Consett so I'm guessing it's doing a straight run down the A68 from Castleside.

The only differences between the 10 & 602

- Via Crawcrook rather than Barmoor
- Via Swalwell rather than Chainbridge Road
- Also ran via A1 until either 2004 (the new interchange bridge) or Tridents replaced by B10BLEs

I never asked, bur cheers anyway.

Oh, and the original 602 (paired with the 601 which operated via Dilston instead of Corbridge) ran via Scotswood Road, before Metrocentre was a thing.

Both were also briefly extended to Killingworth between October 1986 and Jan 1987 (this was at the same time both the 604/X64 were extended to North Shields via, what would become, the 356 route).

Thanks.

Lobley Hill, Sunniside, Burnopfield, Tanfield Lea, Stanley, the Plain, and Leadgate,  I'm guessing.

That makes sense. I'm not familiar with the original 794 route. Presumably from Bewick Street via Haymarket, Jesmond, South Gosforth to Lobley Hill.

I beleive it avoided Newcastle City Centre entirely, travelling across the Tyne Bridge and up Central Motorway East, GNR, Haddricks Mill Road, then Longbenton DHSS (then onto Waterview Park).

Bewick Street is more of a meeting point for this excursion, rather than an accurate reenactment of the service.

That makes sense. Strange the 794 was changed to run via Newcastle City Centre between Longbenton and Lobley Hill, before the CAZ diverted it back out so it now runs through Cowgate and Slatyford onto the A1 to/from Lobley Hill, it could still go via Tyne Bridge, Central Motorway, GNR and Haddricks Mill Road.

The 794 never went through Cowgate and Slatyford. That's the 792 you're thinking of. The 794 has always went via Central Motorway East (and never through the City Centre).

The current 794 operated by Stanley Travel between Tyneview Park and Stanley runs non-stop via Cowgate and Slatyford to access the A1 between Lobley Hill and Benton, whereas the 792 actually stops along the route. Before the CAZ the 794 operated by Weardale, and later GNE, ran via the City Centre. Sometimes GNE still ran via the City Centre when Cobalt, DFDS etc were allocated.
