Would it be the scenic route though? I'd imagine if they're coming from the port in Liverpool, the fastest way would be M62 then A1M

I thought be quicker going up M6 then across A66 and then up A1
Thames Travel seems to be happy with their new Streetdecks which apparently feel more refined and have better acceleration and deceleration. Great to see, I hope Joe and his team can restore Wright back to their former glory.

According to Google Maps, they both take exactly the same amount of time, although going via the M6 is 7 miles shorter.

Wouldn't be surprised if there were more on the way up and they were having a race, that's what I'd do!

Wonder when we'll start seeing the B5s come back, I'm guessing they'll be missing the 'up to every 15 minutes' vinyl inside!

I think MG said that they had several upgrades over even the 67 plate StreetDecks, the only thing that I can remember him saying was the improved suspension for better comfort, and to be honest I never thought the StreetDecks were particularly uncomfortable to start with!

Dan said due back by end of week

So should be another two weeks or so until they start going out on the X21.
Shouldn't really take them too long to add the buggy bay and do a few mechanical upgrades.

Yea so by end of August. Think mechanical work was done at Blackburn

Didn't Dan say that both the buggy bays and mechanical work would be done on their return?

Just checked, looks like some have already been done, the rest will be done on their return
Streetdeck NK20 ELV - fleet number unknown arrived today. Other one wont be long behind it

6356 according to Dan's Flickr

Honestly, the biggest shame about not getting new StreetDecks on the X21 is the lack of the double height destination display.
Assuming they're bringing back the Newcastle-Durham X21s, it would be handy to see at a quick glance if it is the short one, or actually the one to Bishop

Also, those coat hooks actually look useful, unlike the pathetic excuse for a hook on the E400s, although they're still far too low to hang anything on without it hitting the floor

Not a huge fan of the Lothian style interior plastic mind. Was talking recently with someone about the Lothian fleet, and we both mentioned how they're rather hamstrung in terms of making it look modern with their colour scheme - maroon always hits as a rather old fashioned colour.

Compare it to, say, the blue interior found in the majority of GNEs fleet which is reasonably fresh and airy. Maroon, to me at least, just makes things look a bit dated.

100% agree there. To me the light blue looks a lot more modern, if they went with the blue for the lower half and white for the top half, it would have been a lot better imo

I also think the maroon clashes with the red leather on the seats, just doesn't look very good at all
The new buses are looking very smart. Is there a reason why the route number on those double height destination displays is placed on the left hand side rather than the right? That was the first thing that caught my eye as it stands out quite a bit!

I can't remember specific detail, but pretty sure the numbers need to be on the side nearest the road as part of psvar. I'm not aware of any changes to rules/recommendations.

Edit: I meant, side nearest the path.

To me it all goes together very well. Just the same as the E200s. Loving the detail round the wheel arches too

I never noticed the trim on the wheel arches, now looking at the older StreetDecks it just looks wrong without it!
I haven't been on the new GNE buses but have been on Borisbuses before and it's a nicer interior than the blue imo.

For someone who isn't used to GNE (we're mostly Arriva). GNE buses always feel cold / wet especially on a winters day and the blue is pretty much the cause of that. Blue doesn't promote warmth it's a colour you tend to associate with ice, water, winter etc which no doubt is the reason for the change. The Cobalt and Coast is a massive improvement since they painted the blue panels grey, shame they're all chipped with the blue coming through now though.

Personally I think it's the worst interior in the north east (especially the original with blue floors aswell) other than the very short lived Arriva 1970's green bathroom sink one (Operation Overdrive / 57 plate Enviros)

I think the grey they used on the Cobalts looks a lot colder than the blue they used, and it makes them feel more cramped than they already are because it's a lot darker.
Good to see that there is no drastic change to the overall layout of the destination displays - just the existing format blown up across the two screens. The only thing I would suggest in that department would be to shift the route number over to the kerb side to keep in line with the standard.

Yeah, it just looks wrong on the left.
Although when you're standing on the kerb it would make it easier to see the number since the last digit won't get cut off (like how the X and 9 are cut off in Dan's photos)

I'm pretty sure the angle at which dan has taken the photo from might have something to do with the number/letter being cut off. If the photo was straight in at the bus it probably will look normal

True, but on vehicles like the Solos where the display is actually set quite far back from the glass because of the slope, it's actually sometimes quite difficult to see the last digit.
Just seen photo of 6356, looks fab inside (better than expecting). I hope that when things start to look up economically that the older StreetDecks get the same treatment for the Red Kite routes when they're due for refurbishment in 2022/23.
A friend has just inboxed me and said, one of the new Streetdecks broke down on the way up here, not sure if its 6356 or another one on delivery.
