Perhaps a nice ride out in one direction, I would think.

The 42A is probably the longest bus service GNE offers. I don't know why it goes all over the place!

It's a string of contracts from what I see.

Kingston Park to Dinnington is secured, not sure what other contracts are involved.

I would like to ride the 42A sometime, and if someone would join me on such a trip, I definitely would.
The Return fare is reasonable for the whole route, I think. The Single fare is a little expensive.

Transfare doesn't look cost effective. Day Rover looks to be the best multi-operator ticket and best thing is to stick to one type of transport and operator.
Kingston Park to Jarrow cheapest route £4.00 (£4.20 from Sunday) stagecoach day rider

X47 to Eldon Square
X34 Pilgrim Street to Whiteleas Bridge Chuter Ede School) (25 mins on a good run)
10 Chuter Ede School to Jarrow (20 mins on a good run)

Connection is not too bad at Chuter Ede. X34 arrives 05/35 10 departs 16/46
To go to Byker, would it be more sensible to walk to and from Newcastle City Centre or to and from Byker to save on the bus fares? Thanks.

Depends on whether you want the exercise

only you can make that decision.

I am just looking for some advice on what is realistically the most achievable. Getting the bus only between Newcastle Centre and Byker and walking between home and the City Centre saves the most on bus fares, but means walking much further distances each way.

I am looking at ways of saving money on ever-increasing bus fares (and travel costs in general). Therefore I am thinking from the viewpoint that I might end up working somewhere I can either get the bus to or walk to, but working a full day with all that walking, I need to figure out what is realistically achievable.

Thank you.

Have you considered a network 1 pass?

Yes, I have. Thanks. Unfortunately I don't travel enough for it to work out better. I only need to save money occasionally between home and Byker.

Nightshift staff, for example, would have to buy one return rather than two singles, and may be more inclined to use the bus if they don't already. Same could be said for airport buses, people going for nights out, etc...

I do think this is a good idea.

Hammered to and from the station by the pricing structure of a Purple Streetlite, when using the bus either end of a business trip away.
With GNE increasing prices from 9th May (some prices not changing). Will GNE ever remove £10 contactless limit because theirs a lot fares now over the limit?

£10.50 explorer can now be purchased contactless.
New GNE ticket prices from the 9th: https://www.gonortheast.co.uk/tickets/

"New ticket prices from 9 May 2018

We are changing the prices of some of our tickets, including singles and returns from Wednesday 9 May 2018.

Some of our most popular tickets including the £1 aged 18 and under fare and £10 Family Day ticket will be frozen. We will also be freezing the prices of tickets available on the Go North East app until the end of May. "

Having had a look through some of the core tickets, the increases seem to to be a bit bizarre to say the least. Increases ranging from 1.96% to a whopping 13.3%, with the under 18s dis-proportionally affected. Oh and at a time we're told that inflation has fallen to the lowest point in the last year at 2.5% - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-43808716

18 & Under tickets -
Day ticket rises from £3.80 to £4.00 (5.26%)
Weekly ticket rises from £15.50 to £17.00 (9.67%)
Monthly ticket rises from £60.00 to £68.00 (13.3%)

Buzzfare tickets -
1 Zone Day - Rises from £5.10 to £5.20 (1.96%)
2 Zone Day - Rises from £6.50 to £6.70 (3.07%)
3+ Zone Day - Rises from £8.00 to £8.20 (2.49%)

1 Zone Week - Rises from £21.00 to £23.00 (9.52%)
2 Zone Week - Rises from £27.00 to £30.00 (11.1%)
3+ Zone Week - Rises from £34.00 to £35.00 (2.94%)

1 Zone Month - Rises from £68.00 to £72.00 (5.88%)
2 Zone Month - Rises from £89.00 to £94.00 (5.61%)
3+ Zone Month - Rises from £105.00 to £110.00 (4.76%)

Huh

That looks like someone has just randomly whacked increases on, without any methodology at all.

Some of those fare increases are ridiculous!

I can see the situation now.
The boss, sticks a fezz on and wanders around the office asking colleagues a question.

'Pick a number, any number'.

The others, thinking it's all part of an elaborate magic show pick a random selection of numbers, as instructed by their Moroccan hatted funny person.

'thankyou very much. That's this weeks fare increase sorted out'
Just to avoid any accusations that I am only looking at one side of this, I thought I'd do a comparison for the Town and Route Saver tickets too.

[attachment=8912]

Green is anything within the current level of inflation, Amber is a tolerance up to 3.00%, Red is anything between 3.01% - 10%, and Dark Red is anything over 10%.
I don't know if it's been mentioned that explorer prices have changed. Adults up from £10 to £10.50 but the child ticket has come down again, to £5.50.

Family explorer tickets remain at £20

What Stagecoach and Arriva tickets are valid on the Cross Pennine 685 between Denton Burn and Eldon Square? Thanks.
Fare changes from 20th May.

Didn't realise Arriva had so many ticket options....
Is the Arriva Northumberland and Tyne & Wear Saver valid on the Stagecoach 685  between Hexham and Newcastle Eldon Square?

ANE price increases from next weekend.
For those unaware the "Explorer" ticket went up today from £10.50 to £10.90, driver who issued mine on the 21 was completely unaware of the increase along with a driver on the X10 when he issued one to a passenger boarding at Dalton Park this morning.

I see the Day Rover has increased from £7.50 to £7.80. Were the Explorer tickets issued to you and the other passenger for the old price or the new one, as the drivers were unaware of the increase?

The driver, whether aware or not of a price change, has to issue the ticket at the price set in the machine (which should always be the correct price!)

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, if the machine has the wrong price we have a real problem! Are Go North East increasing their fares too? Arriva, Stagecoach and Network One have all increased their prices.

I guess that Arriva are unaware that the explorer went up, today, because I got mine for £10.50, on the 64, this morning, same as yesterday.

Nope - at least not yet!

I was charged £10.90 just for clarification.

Explorer ticket prices are set by Network One, and they increased from yesterday
