While we are on about the Northern League...
League Chairman Mike Amos is to retire at the end of the season
Northern League chairman Mike Amos to retire at the end of next season after 20 years
Like him or loathe him, he has turned the Northern League into the best Step 5 League in the country...Starting with Whitby Town back in 1997, he oversaw the Northern League domination of the FA Vase to the point that a beano to Wembley is pretty much guaranteed year in, year out.
The one thing I don't like is his opposition to the FA and the Pyramid, I would prefer it if The Northern League had more ambition, but I suppose you only can live within your means, in doing so, the Northern League is probably the best attended Step 5 league and can attract players of a really high standard.
Mike Amos, loves his football and anything to do with local football, I have spoke to him a few times over e-mail, he is very likable and would do anything to protect the game locally...
I think he will be a miss come next season, whoever gets the job has a huge pair of boots to fill [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

As for quality, I have always thought the 3rd/2nd Division/League 1 has always been quite a strong League, moreso in recent years, Swansea, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Charlton, Wolves, Southampton, Leeds, Leicester, Forest, Norwich Sheff Wed and Sheff United recently, Sunderland, Boro, Villa in the 80's, Manchester City in the 90's, Hartlepool were a decent side up there when Hodcroft and IOR bankrolled them
Should have been sacked the day he claimed to be the best in the Premier League
Wonder if he tries out his best geordie impression when he is unveiled
We will have to agree to disagree on the third tier in the 80's being not too far from the Northern League/Conference feeder levels at the time - but... (me being a pain in the arse) - Villa in the third tier in the 80's?
John Carver has left Newcastle

Sorry Davie, u were a tad late
Also think who ever Newcastle get in, the fans will still bitch and moan, who they buy, sell and if they loose, they'll want out after one game........seems to be a pattern every season.

Substitute Newcastle for Sunderland and hoy in a few pink seats, how the million players bought over the summer will change the team, how this seasons manager will be able to work wonders with a full season under their belt, how this will be the end of managers being fired during their first full season - into the sentence... Seems to be a pattern every season :p
Seriously though, what has happened over the last few years, can't continue - at either team.
They don't have a divine right to be in the Premier League, but bad management and owners making repeated mistakes, isn't a recipe for success.
The teams which I think will Struggle will be Watford, Norwich City, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Newcastle United (mainly due to the owner Mike Ashley not the team itself) shock stars I would say would be both AFC Bournemouth and Sunderland AFC with Dick Avocaat now in charge I think he will get rid of the junk and players who are not performing he will sign quality from anywhere as for AFC Bournemouth despite having a snail stadium they could surprise me like Wigan Athletic did 10 years ago when they first went up or another example Hull City in there debut season started off bright then flopped and finished in 17th so at best Norwich are more experienced the only had 1 year in the championship Watford 8 years in Championship while AFC Bournemouth have yet to play a premier league game but I bet there first game it will be a sell out as they have never experienced Premier League action ever. Meanwhile at the other end of the table I can see Manchester United or Manchester City winning the league while Chelsea will feel a tad week but you never know with the players they sign they might just push for the euros and bring back the glory days fa cup I can see Chelsea winning that, Manchester City league cup winners I think Arsenal will be now desperate again to win the premier league which they haven't done since 2004

I can agree to disagree on that one pal
Got my dates wrong, they were Third Tier for 2 seasons in the 1970s...Below is Aston Villa's years outside the top Fight
Aston Villa Non-Top Flight Seasons(with position):-
1936-37...9th
1937-38...1st(Champions)
1959-60 ...1st(Champions)
1967-68...16th
1968-69...18th
1969-70...21st(Relegated)
1972-73...3rd
1973-74...14th(Promoted)
1987-88...2nd(Promoted)
Third Tier Seasons
1970-71...4th
1971-72...1st(Champions)
I do see where your coming from though...Though I would always say The Conference for quality was closer to the 3rd division with only a couple of Northern League Clubs being capable enough to challenge at a higher level, which is why I mentioned Spennymoor, Whitley Bay and North Shields, despite ending up back in the Northern League, they played played in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, as did Bishop Auckland and I think Whitby and Blyth today are proof of that strength today

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye is eyeing a move away from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and says he would be happy to link up with former boss Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace.
Wouldn't mind Yohan Kebab at Sunderland, good player on his day

Steve McClaren has been officially named Newcastle Head Coach
Not a good appointment in my opinion, does anyone else reckon fan opinion will be really split over this???
2 Quick Points
1. 3 Year Contract with the option of a further 8
2. The goal set for McClaren is a top 8 finish and win a trophy...
I have never forgiven McClaren for;
1. Looking like a cock under his Umbrella in 2007 when we lost to Croatia at Wembley
2. That fucking stupid Dutch accent...
When he did that Press Conference and the same goes for Joey Barton as well and his fucking idiotic French accent I was kinda reminded of Arthur Bostrum(Officer Crabtree in 'Allo Allo')
Good Moaning

Breaking News
Fat Mike is resigning from the board
Mike Ashley to step down from Newcastle United board
Interesting move, Steve McClaren has been co-opted onto the board and is the only head coach in the League to also be a director

It was announced at the weekend (possibly before then, it was rumoured) that he was stepping down.
The news about McLaren being on the board is obviously new.

Never realised that mate, despite Newcastle saying it is business as usual regarding ownership of the club, but I wonder why he stepped down, could it be a part of an exit strategy or a worrying step to pulling out completely leaving Newcastle in a financial nightmare???

Not sure to be honest.
No idea if it is connected with the Rangers stuff, whether he needs a break or indeed if he is concentrating on his other business.
He said he isn't going to sell unless Newcastle win a trophy in his interview at the end of the season.
Just too let everyone know, JJ O'Donnell has left Gateshead Football Club. He is currently doing his rehab at Manchester City and is looking for a team closer to home for obvious reasons
I would also like to add that JJ has pointed out he hopes to return to the football club once he gets his career back on track.
Lazio's president has been a naughty boy...

Where is JJ from, I noticed he has played for Luton and Hyde, with him being at City is he looking to stay in Manchester or move back towards Luton??? Does he hope to play for Gateshead or simply hope to come back some day as an opponent?
Is he looking to stay pro or is it more likely he will go Semi-Pro and rebuild his career and wish him luck whereever he ends up
Best of luck to him, he owes you hugely, I hope your fundraising effort pays off and he plays again

I personally think Lazio are a vile club, there fanbase are very right wing with Fascist/Nazi beliefs
Apparantly Nazi Salutes are a staple part of there match day experience
A certain former Sunderland Manager has even been pictured giving Nazi Salutes
