Nightmare for breakdowns in this morning! 1443 broke down in Durham Bus Station on the X12 and now 6035 has broke down at Framwellgate Moor on the X21. This is the third bus some passengers have been on to get to Newcastle! [emoji1]

Sounds like you're having the trouble me and Dan had last week.

Fortunately my bus is fine. Just after I posted that 6035 started moving again (in service).

I'm currently on Stagecoach 27142 to Carlisle, the person I'm meeting with decided to catch a 10 to Hexham...this bus better run slightly late for him to get his connection

Haha! He was going to get on the 10 30 minutes in front of that but it didn't seem to turn up.
I had a trip to Alnwick and Rothbury yesterday, more for sightseeing than bus spotting. He’s an overview of my day:

Arriva 7514 10:33 Newcastle to Alnwick. Alexander Dennis Trident with Max branding.

Bus left 5 minutes late from Haymarket with a good loading. No spotters at cling on corner. This was the last Arriva Northumbria bus I needed to spot the entire fleet. Grabbed the seat above the driver. A good thrash upto Alnwick. A long section of the A1 is closed between Felton and Alnwick so the bus could not serve Shilbottle. Alighted at Willowburn.

Visited premises of Snaiths (locked up but two coaches in the yard), Gardiners NMC (6 vehicles in the yard including 4 coaches, looks like registrations have been swapped on some vehicles) and NEED (8 vehicles in the yard, including a recently acquired Peugeot Boxer). Also looked at Alnwick Ambulance Station (1 patient transport Renault Master there), Barrons Minibuses (single transit parked up) and Kennedys (no vehicles there).

Non-PSV educational operators premises passed were Barndale House (2 minibuses, one Variety Club Ducato and the other Lords Taverners Transit), Pottergate Centre (3 Mercedes Sprinters, Northumberland County Council) and Duchess High School (1 LDV and 1 Transit). Teachers were trying to break up a fight near the High School entrance, looked chaotic.

Spent most of my time here looking at Barter Books and the Castle. Also studied the architecture of the ancient buildings near the castle. Weather was cold but nice, had a good explore of the town centre. I decided to head over to Rothbury being laden down with books. I never seem to leave Barter Books empty handed. Loads of train books there for enthusiasts. Arriva are running a shuttle service to Shilbottle via Lion Heart Enterprise Park.

Spirit Buses Alexander Dennis Enviro MX14FUG 14:15 Alnwick to Rothbury

Bus was driven by proprietor Steve Hurst, this is the company’s only bus following disposal of the Dennis Darts. 6 Adults and 1 small child got on at Alnwick bus station. There were already 3 people on the bus. This is one of my favourite bus routes, I love the views of the magnificent Cheviot Hills. The thrash over the moors is amazing. Journey took 20 minutes, everyone got off at Rothbury. They have a new time table leaflet published, very informative.

They are having a concert in the Queens Head, Rothbury on Saturday 12 March to raise money to keep Spirit Buses going. A former member of Lindisfarne is appearing. At Rothbury I visited the premises of Bells who hold a restricted o-licence. No vehicles present, I believe they have stopped running psvs. The National Trust’s Cragside Estate minibus was at their garage under repair. It’s a 16 seat VW Crafter. I had previously thought it was an MB Sprinter. Looks rather smart and carries National Trust Shuttle Bus lettering.

Had a nice walk by the river at Rothbury and decided to go for a quiet pint. It was quiet, I was the only customer in the pub! Ale was excellent though. Had a quick look at Section 19 Permit holder RAFA. This charity has a VW Crafter and VW Caddy adapted for use of it’s care home residents.

Arriva 7481 Rothbury to Newcastle DAF with Alexander bodywork

Caught the 15:59 X14 from the Queens Head at Rothbury. I was one of two passengers at Rothbury. Got the seat above the driver, had a great ride home as the sun slowly set with the clouds a brilliant red. Excellent views of rolling countryside. Bus arrived at Newcastle on time. Noted PCL Travel’s recently acquired dual door bus was at Thomas Street. Decided to photograph this but bus left as I waiting to cross the busy road. One enthusiast at clingon corner. Oldish guy in a black and white woolly hat.

A great day out, normally I concentrate on spotting and visiting operators’ garages. Yesterday I just had a nice relaxing day in the amazing Northumbrian countryside. Today I’m going to try some Metro replacement services between St. James and Wallsend. Might even visit clingon corner for a bit.

Have a great weekend.

Charles

It's free to be used by anyone - you don't need to have a ticket for the football match to use it.

Today I was on an outing with Marcus. To see a more detailed account of the day, see his review. This is more just a note of what I had today, with some of the day differing from Marcus'

Marcus' idea of a "day out" wasn't long enough for my liking, on a Saturday I'm usually out from 8 in the morning until around 7 at night, so I would be a bit disappointed arriving home at 17:30, so I chanced my luck with some Lowlander's with 7453 operating the 16:50 46 Durham - Tow Law journey with me alighting in Crook, I was thinking of getting either the 101 or 1 down to Bishop Auckland or Darlington from Crook but opted to catch 7442 straight back to Durham, although I abandoned ship at Nevilles Cross to make a connection to service 7 rather than sit waiting for over 20 minutes in Durham Bus Station for the next one.

Thanks Marcus for inviting me on your outing today. Thanks everyone for reading this brief review, I should be back on my own outings after today so I may be able to do some proper reviews again soon.

Marcus probably needs to be home in time for tea, bless him Smile

I'm no better - I need to be home in time to cook tea, and I had some sea bream that needed seeing to, this evening!

I've tried to persuade Big'un to take some responsibility for recording what we ride on, but he's rubbish at it. I refuse to do it! As much detail as I can muster up for our Arriva day, today is:

9:25 1597 Streetlite 22 to Peterlee
10:15 1407 (remembered this because of the distinctive cream face) Pulsar 21A peterlee-Stockton
11:30 1415 Max spare Pulsar on the S1 to Teesside Park
12:17 Same bus, same driver, back again. Bus ticket "top of the range" both ways.
No idea what time (we'd been for a walk) Omnicity X66 Stockton-Darlo
14:30 Unremembered Pulsar on the 5A from Darlo to Bishop Auckland
legged it across the bus station for the 15:55-ish 6 (another Pulsar) to Durham, New Elvet
After a walk, 16:37 1478 Pulsar (5th of the day) 22 from Durham bus station to home.
Here’s Saturday’s outing:-

Arriva 7491 Wrightbus bodied Volvo Rail Replacement Service 900 11:45. Newcastle Monument to Wallsend. Got the seat above the driver. Was photographed by IPad Man at Monument. Think I saw Davey and Dan P at Wallsend Bus Station. Visited Premier Mini Coaches and WB Kerr garage at Wallsend.

GNE 567 Dart North Tyne Links. Wallsend Old Town Hall to Wallsend Bus Station Service 80 12:27. Could not face walking back to Wallsend town centre in the freezing cold so jumped on this busy bus after visiting Kerr’s.

Stanley Travel Volvo NK03LJV Rail Replacement 900. Wallsend to Walkergate 12:51. Bus was very busy, never been on a Stanley Travel decker before, love the purple interior. Visited Blueline Taxis depot at Walkergate. Their 16 seat Transit has been re-registered 509BLT.

Stanley Travel Volvo NK03LHZ Rail Replacement 900. Walkergate to Byker 13:07. Visited TJ Taxis, Stanley Travel, Community Transport and Byker Community Trust premises at Byker. Three deckers at Stanley Travel garage. Oldish guy taking photos at Byker Metro.

Arriva 7446 Alexander bodied Volvo on the 900. Byker to Newcastle 13:39.Grabbed some lunch and went to the corner. Two young guys who I believe were deaf taking photos. Got fed up of standing in the cold and went to look for patient transport minibuses at the RVI.

Peter Hogg Optare Solo CN07KZR. Newcastle Haymarket to Newcastle Airport 15:00. Left late as driver waited for missing passenger. 6 passengers in total. Driver very friendly, passed a tub of sweets around for everyone to share. I’d love to see some of Arriva’s miserable drivers be kind like that! Good thrash along the motorway. Spotted Park & Fly buses at the airport.

GNE 8328 Optare Versa Newcastle Airport to Wideopen. Service 353 15:38, enjoyed this journey through the green belt despite the bad weather. Had not been on this section of the 353 service before. Decided to head back into town as weather worsening.

Arriva 7463, Alexander bodied DAF working the 15:57 service 43 Wideopen to Newcastle Haymarket. Last bus of the day, alighted near the church and walked home through the city centre. Journey spoilt by loud-mouthed pre-teens talking rubbish about being mortal drunk.

Was an OK day out, just cannot seem to get into the corner anymore though. Good to see so many enthusiasts out and about. Thanks for reading.

Can you guess where I was all will be revealed after Corrie

Manchester?
Coventry?
Trying to plan an outing for tomorrow where I wanted to get the Nightingale Coaches 28C shuttle service plus the PCL Travel Dart and the Solo currently on loan with Go North East, but so far all I've managed to achieve is a headache! The burning issue is that PCL Travel have two services from Hexham on a Tuesday but looking at the timetables they don't look to interwork so I don't whether it will be on the service leaving Hexham around 12:30? Or the one that leaves at 13:45. Another issue is with the 28C, unfortunately I am unfamiliar with the area so the only bit of the route I know is where Beamish Museum is, so I'd be stuck in the area for half an hour between 8's to get a photo there. I also need to track down the Solo GNE currently have on loan at Hexham which looks like it will be a challenge given its been on the 185/681 recently which don't run to Hexham.

Honestly don't know what to do, 28C is the priority though. Suggestions?

Walking from Beamish to Thatchers Foot and an X31 or V7 may be quicker than waiting for an 8.
The other option is to pick a bus up following a walk from Beamish to West Pelton and a 28/28a. This is a shorter walk than up to Thatchers Foot.

I would try heading to Hexham initially and spending time there, prior to heading back south via Beamish.

Think I've figured something out now. Think I'll get the 689 from Consett to Hexham tomorrow morning as it arrives around 10 minutes in front of one of the PCL Travel services with the other arriving sometime before, both services should terminate at Wentworth Car Park which is near the bus station, so I'm hoping that's where they'll park up, if not there the bus station. Only worry about going to Hexham for that time is the sun is likely to be in an awful place, was a nightmare last time. Hoping to catch the GNE loaned Solo in Hexham.

Will do the 28C in the afternoon, although I think rain is forecast for the afternoon, so that may cause a few issues.

Suggestions?
the 28c stops at the top end of beamish next to where the entrance is to the museum
