I've lost track of the changes a bit. I understand it is being replaced by a Go North East route between North Shields, Jarrow and Heworth. Is this true?
(17 Jul 2021, 4:51 pm)Storx wrote [ -> ]In fairness, they'll carry fresh air. No-one wants to go to North Shields from Jarrow there's no reason to travel through. It's just a replacement for the 319/9/310 which is subsidised by Nexus. Imo it's just one of those routes that exists because it's 'always been there' and really needs changed on the North side of the water where it'd be better serving Silverlink and Cobalt with a connection to the Metro at Percy Main where people from Jarrow actually might want to travel to (Cinema, Shopping, Work, Food etc). North Shields to Jarrow can Bus to Percy Main and Metro or Metro/Bus to South Shields and Ferry across.
Agree about this historic/legacy points and that it would be better serving a destination other than two desolate Town centres.
Surely a commercial operator could do something about that?

Additionally serving Royal Quays won't make a huge difference as it was pretty bare the last time I was down there. There's only Next and GAP left as 'outlets', the rest of the stores are either independent shops offering discounted stock or retailers you'd find on any High Street (along with the empty units there). Dalton Park is the better option for that sort of thing, which is a shame because Royal Quays used to be pretty good.
I think Nexus would be better off securing a service to Silverlink as there is probably more on offer there in terms of retail, leisure, and employment.

No to clear up to anyone.
The Heworth extention was a rumours
Stagecoach South Shields 10/11 will extend to North Shields via the Royal Quays
The 319 is being withdrawn by Gateshead Central Taxis being replaced by the Stagecoach 10/11

Interesting. I live in Biddick Hall also. 45 mins on 10. 20 mins on 4 down street pending on ferry connection amd then wait for 333 it will be 6 and 2 3's on journey time. That equals No 10/11

That clearly didn't work though, otherwise Stagecoach wouldn't be withdrawing their Cobalt connection.

A couple of peak journeys is hardly a connection and offers little of note except to a commuter who has a working pattern of 9 to 5. If the secured service is going to be carrying fresh air based upon a route confined to the annals of history, it may as well carry fresh air on a route which is largely unproven outside of the few journeys already mentioned. It may work, it may not, but it's probably worth a shot considering, as observed, apparently few people use it in its current guise.

Thanks, that's really interesting. I have just looked on the Stagecoach website, and seen it will take 1 hour and 25 minutes to get from South Shields to North Shields. Not only would the ferry be quicker, but so would the Metro (even without changing at Haymarket), and it might even be quicker to swim!

Agree entirely, saw the 10/11 several times around the A187 and Flatworth, very meagre numbers. 37301 on the 16:49 ex Silverlink on Friday carried one passenger. Assuming the North Shields change is also due to a subsidy.
I used the 11 back over to Jarrow once (last journey it made over there during the morning)
I saw I think 4 people get off and wait for a Cobalt & Coast

I think you know more than the bus operators who are covering these contracts on an emergency basis…

That very reliable source of information, never known to be incorrect…!
These services are being operated by their current operators on an emergency basis until 5 September. Nexus has put these services out to tender on a formal basis to continue to March/May 2022. Gateshead Central Taxis are entitled to bid to run these contracts just like every other operator is.

So Phoenix and GNE are still running them and bus org is showing them to go back to GCT from the 8th

I'm guessing the fact that GCT forfeited the contracts in the past will have absolutely no bearing on whether they get awarded them in the future since the only thing that's taken into account is price?
Look at the date Dan said, the same date GNE's dates take effect

Price is not the only thing taken into account according to the invitation to tender. An extract from the notice issued by Nexus is shown below.
II.2.4) Description of the procurement
The procurement of the operation of 'Registered Local Bus services' in the local authority areas of Tyne and Wear with effect from 05/09/2021. It is anticipated that subsequent contracts will be for a term of up to 9 months, with an option of extending each contract for up to 12 months should this be necessary. The contracts will be tendered on the basis of operating specified timetables. The vehicles required will be low floor, easy access, meeting a minimum of Euro 5 engine emission standards and meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Acts with a minimum capacity of 23 or 36 passengers depending on the route involved.
II.2.5) Award criteria
Price is not the only award criterion and all criteria are stated only in the procurement documents.

Price is not the only criteria but it's the one we weight 99% of the decision against is what they mean.
41A will be ran by GCT on Sunday and evening as expected
Not seeing the new version of the little Pinks in Washington on there. Have go North East got that back full time
Urrrrrgh, flippin GCT,i wish GNE would take all the North Tyneside services back off them, hopefully in the future they will if the percent of passengers pick up,i still would of numbered the 41A 40,as thats what people in the area know it as

The only way GNE to take back off them will be dig deep in the shareholders pockets while there are on there luxury yachts smoking Cuban cigars and fork out to run them commercially [emoji23]

Whey no, they can't be in two places at once.
They're too busy to be asking shareholders for money. It's a better use of their time posing for photos at County Hall and running about with their begging bowl once the press pack have gone.
If you look very closely at the photo outside County Hall, you may just see a pile of begging bowls in the luggage rack.

I noticed that the begging bowls were branded as well with shareholders bank account details on and you get a free day ticket only between Gateshead interchange and Newcastle city centre for Xmas day only [emoji23]
