Possibly yeah, not sure how that would work but guess some parts of the W1/W1A would have to suffice with a hourly service.

The 51 is always overcrowded between Newcastle and Benton Asda, so good so see it's being improved.

If any of the above are to improve reliability, a simple 'rejigg' of the times isn't going to solve many of the issues with or without roadworks. Extra buses and extra running time to deliver real improvement is what is needed, not a 'pack em in and run em' late approach. Seen it too many times particularly with the 306 / 308 and rejigging the times 5 minutes here and there isn't going to improve reliability. Adding time and maybe an extra bus on some of the routes will!
I think Arriva are doing quite a good job with the X7 and X8 despite roadworks. Extra buses have been added to the cycle so some peak journeys are given 22 minutes layover at the Haymarket (eg the 17:07 X8 comes from the 16:45 X7 arrival). I dont think extending running time on these routes is a good option because on many days, especially Friday the traffic at Longbenton is not bad so the bus has to wait time at Quorum. Adding running time would just increase waiting time on many trips. As long as they are getting buses away from Newcastle and Blyth on time then I think thats the best they can do. Some other services such as the 308 may also benefit from extra buses.

Newcastle is probably a big issue with all the Blyth services, plus X21/X22 etc and you can only have a bus on stand for so long in Haymarket because otherwise you would have buses stuck outside sat on Piercy Street, bad enough as it is at times.
The following information was released by Quorum Business Park.

X7/X8 Service
Newcastle City Council originally advised the Killingworth Road would be re-opened on 28 Feb 2018, however the closure has been extended until the summer (date tbc) as there are complications with the utilities works. Newcastle City Council have been subsidising the diversion of some Arriva buses during the closure, the funding for that runs out at the end of Feb (despite the road still being closed) as a result;

  • from the 18 March 2018 the X7 will leave Quorum and go straight down Benton Lane then turn right at Four Lane Ends, rather than diverting through Balliol and Longbenton first. This is actually a good thing for people working at Quorum as it will make the bus journey to town a lot quicker on the X7 bus.

  • The X8 will still travel through Balliol and Longbenton before heading to Newcastle. There are just some minor changes elsewhere on the route

NOTE the X7 and X8 bus do not stop at Four Lane Ends, they just travel past it.

Change to the 555 Service

  • The 555 will no longer travel to the Regent Centre after the last journey to Four Lane Ends as there wasn’t enough people using the service to make it commercially viable.

NOTE: we are aware of the issues with some of the morning services not operating to timetable, I have reported this to Arriva and they are running off some reports to see if any more tweaks to the service are required. We are hopeful that the service will return to a 25-min loop when the Killingworth road re-opens in the summer.

Service 52 and 54
Arriva have been monitoring passenger numbers on their evening services and they have recorded very few people using them. Some of the evening routes are no longer commercially viable and as a result:

  • The number 52 bus to Newcastle at 21:05 will be withdrawn from 18 March 2018

  • The number 54 bus to Newcastle at 21:19, 22:06 and 23:06 will be withdrawn from 18 March 2018

NOTE: Arriva have applied for some funding from Nexus to subsidise the evening buses on the 54 services so there is a chance that they may come back on in the future. If the withdrawal of the services affects any of your staff please provide me with details so I can pass them onto Arriva to support the application of the subsidy.

Most timetables will change again in the summer when Killingworth Road is re-opened.
There is also details from Northumberland County Council about these changes. In general its just minor timetable changes however service 44 is being withdrawn between Dinnington and Morpeth.

Might have to take my comments back about the 306 / 308. Can't seem to make out the NCC literature (which might contain mistakes) and only the final timetable will confirm but looking at this, the 308 looks to be as follows if it gets more time:

Blyth Departures: xx:10, xx:25, xx:40, xx:55
Newcastle Arrivals: xx:16, xx:31, xx:46, xx:01
Newcastle Departures: xx:23, xx:38, xx:53, xx:08
Blyth Arrivals: xx:26, xx:41, xx:56, xx:11

Hope the final timetable confirms the above and Arriva have finally seen sense to provide an extra bus with increased running / recovery time.

Hopefully a replacement will be sourced! Could even be a case of amending the S1 to operate the 44 route between Stannington and Morpeth.

Saw this coming, got a 44 from Stannington to Morpeth recently and I think there was only me (and possibly one more passenger) on it, mind not surprising when on the section between Hepscott Park and Morpeth, the 43 & 44 are running only 3 minutes apart from each other in both directions (on this occasion the 44 was late, so the 43 picked up all the passengers).

My observations support this too, I have been on the 44 several times and there was never more than 6 of us on that section.
Think this withdrawl has been coming for years really, first loss of evening services and then in 2015? they consulted on losing the full Saturday service. Surprised it lasted this long when I think about it.

Shame to see these areas lose a service although its clear that the demand was just not there.

Summer X93 timetable now on-line:
https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/globalassets...18_sum.pdf

Changes from the 2017 season:
New 'earlier' journey added between Middlesbrough and Whitby departing Middlesbrough at 0750 and Guisborough at 0818, connecting with the former Whitby 'short' board - appears all of the summer extras will be Redcar operated this summer.
Journeys towards Scarborough will now leave Guisborough 2 minutes earlier.
The late departure between Middlesbrough and Scarborough in the summer (1820 from Middlesbrough, 1935 from Whitby) presently gets 1 hour 2 minutes between Whitby and Scarborough - from the end of March, this is reduced to 55 minutes, allowing the last Scarborough to Whitby journey to depart 10 minutes earlier at 2045 (was 2055 last year) arriving in Whitby at 2136 (2155).
All daytime journeys will arriving in Scarborough 1 minute earlier than presently
The current last departure from Whitby to Middlesbrough all year round at 1903 and the last Middlesbrough to Whitby at 2020 will now run Summer only
Journeys from Whitby to Middlesbrough will run 2 minutes later from Guisborough to Middlesbrough

Looking at the map, http://networkonetickets.co.uk/tickets/explorer/

I would suggest it was.

There is the ANE NE ticket to look at if not.
Yes, they will.

The inbound from Whitby is also Summer only - only part of that one that runs all year round is the Scarborough to Whitby bit.
