(13 Jul 2016, 3:47 pm)L469 YVK wrote [ -> ]The two Coast Road services will be an interesting change considering that the Monday to Saturday daytime 309 / 310 services will run 2 minutes ahead of the 306 / 308 from the W/C 25th July between Station Road / Newcastle as well as running almost bang in the middle during Sunday daytimes. Can't see them changing either the 306 / 308 for reliability reasons unless an extra bus or two could be sourced.

I will put money on them putting them in front of the 309/310 as well.  Of course, with the roadworks at the Silverlink junction, they could be putting in some service changes to combat the delays which are going to happen.
(13 Jul 2016, 3:52 pm)Tom wrote [ -> ]They need to sort the 308 out especially as that is the worst and the 306 and 308 always end up running together so the 7/8 minute frequency between them never works out

Well of course the 308 struggle with only a PVR of 9 considering that it's probably the second most profitable / well used service in the North East just sitting behind the Durham 'Angel' runs (excluding any Busways registered services). The 308 either needs another bus added or a parallel express running in a similar way to the way that the Angel / Castles Express work together.

They could do that but bearing in mind that Arriva have a strong coridoor between Billy Mill / Willington Square including St Peters & Holy Cross for the 308, the revenue gained between Station Road / Newcastle is like the icing on the cake of the revenue gained in their monopoly areas. Arriva may well time them to sit bang in the middle or at worst, in front. But at GNEs advantage, GNE 'could' fill in the gap of an express service with some double deckers (or single deckers) either sourced from within GNE or with more cascades from B&H if any available.
The changes on 44 and 45 could be returning the evening and sunday services to loop as the Commercial department have said they would look to change it back asap after complaints after they stopped it.

And we have some details (the day before the changes):
  • Unchanged timetable to the revised 81 daytime route - reinstating Sunday services to parts of Mersey Road and Low Farm Drive
  • Will operate as the 81a and will still interwork with the 3 (so the routing previously mentioned regarding the 3 in Redcar can now be disregarded)
On VOSA today, the last one is a shock!

They've probably got the contract for the 472. Arriva and Travelsure already accept each other's tickets so there won't be a big difference for passengers.

I had it on good authority that Travelsure's days doing the 472 were over, however I had no proof so didn't want to post anything. Surely this means more Solo's/MPDs for Ashington?

Only need one Solo for the 57s, so I see just a MPD or one of the Solos being used.

PVR will be 1 for the 472 anyway.

Would it not be more cost effective to operate the service from the Alnwick outstation? Considering it starts and finishes in Alnwick in the morning/evening.

In the most recent timetable I can see it looks like the current PVR is 2 buses?

A reduction to one wouldn't surprise me however given NCC's desire to save money.

Wouldn't be as much of a need to save money if they weren't buying shopping centres for £78m...

Any news on the 4th September changes?
Newcastle Council Consultation

12 August 16

Newcastle City Council have unveiled £20m of improvements to two of the busiest junctions in Newcastle, including Haddricks Mill and Blue House roundabouts. The junctions form part of a key corridor that runs across the city from Cowgate to the north of the city in Gosforth. Both junctions suffer from high levels of congestion and delays and are well-known collision hotspots.
