Delays to service already - the Metro I'm waiting for is about 6 minutes late...
(18 Apr 2015, 4:22 pm)Tommy_1581 wrote [ -> ]994037(A)'s front left door opened before the train stopped. Talk about delays, this is serious!

If it's less than 1mph the drivers will sometimes do that, no biggie. The door isn't going to open fast enough that you're going to fall out of it.
There are no trains running between Bede and South Shields in both directions until further notice. This is due to a failed train. Go North East are accepting Metro tickets in the affected area. Bus services 27, 88 operate between Jarrow and South Shields. We will update you as soon as we have more information.
Well I spoke too soon on the "What's made you happy today?" thread...

In addition to the modernisation work being carried out between Heworth and Monument resulting in no trains operating (albeit with a replacement bus service running), there are now no trains between Heworth and South Shields / Brockley Whins. Go North East are accepting Metro tickets Heworth - South Shields, but no replacement bus service between Brockley Whins and Heworth meaning that customers are stranded or are faced with an hour-long detour via Hebburn on the 88/88A and 27 to Heworth.

Oh yes, and there are delays too. Don't know whether it was just the one I intended to catch, but it was running around five minutes late. This is the revised timetable for the weekend, too, and not the ordinary times.

Both me and my mam, intending to travel to Newcastle, have turned back and gone home as it's not worth even attempting to go out when there's problems like this on the network. A few others are the same, including one person who had already paid for his parking space at the Stadium of Light. What a liberty.

Tyne and Wear have gave no updates on the problems between those destinations!

Ah right, i don't have twitter, probables don't want all the rage posts about it haha
There's a further system failure in South tyneside tonight.
There are no trains running between Jesmond and Monument in both directions until further notice. This is due to problem with the overhead line.
We are currently operating a bus replacement service, the number 900, calling at or near to all stations between Jesmond and Heworth.
We will update you once we have more information.

Oh dear! Not good for the Newcastle fans traveling to St James Park.

Unfortunately, I was in the match rush hour and just managed to squeeze onto 994002 at Manors as everyone was advised to use the Metro via Wallsend for the Coast.

The 900 was only doing Heworth-Monument/Haymarket, I'm led to believe by someone that there was another 900 shuttling people back and forth from Jesmond and Haymarket.
The first refurbished Metrocar to gain a promotional advertisement is 4082:

As we've already established, Greg in Weardale favours the Metro when he travels from Sunderland to Newcastle, since the withdrawal of Go North East's X3 service. I wonder if he'll opt for the 56 instead, when he realises that Tyne & Wear Metro are covering windows in contravision?!

emdjt42 also reports that 4033 has gained a similar advertisement, to promote Emirates.

Looks really nice. Photo description says 4033 also has a refurbished livery.
Great to see the refurbished metros getting liveries!

This is a replacement advertisement for (99)4040 which is to be withdrawn.

(99)4001 is currently sat at SG in single formation.

I was under the impression that four Metrocars would not be refurbished and would see use in the reserve fleet, for allocation when duplicate / extra trains are in operation. Two of the four were, of course, 4001 and 4002. Is there a reason for the earlier than planned withdrawal of 4040?

4002 is still out and about, as it was coupled to one of the unrefurbished Metrocars with a promotional ad. Has been my ride a number of times this last week or two, including this morning.

4001 is in a right state at SG, currently stabled in a siding. 4002 and 4040 are still coupled together and have been for a while now. If Metro have put adverts for Emerates on other Metrocars, I'd think that 4002 and 4040 will be withdrawn, along with 4001 and another Metrocar*.

There was another 2 non-refurbished Metrocars on the network last month, I haven't seen these two recently.

*This Metrocar may be at SG acting as a spare for the 4002--4040 set or the other set.

I haven't seen anymore oddities on the Metro today when I did Monument-Gateshead, Heworth-Kingston Park with my brother.

I was on one last week, when I was going to work. I think it was red.

Aye, its the red ones.

I believe 4040/4083(both emirates units) are the ones along with the prototypes to not be refurbished, what will happen to these units seem unclear although I think 'withdrawn' in the true sence of the word is unlikely.

I agree they barely have enough metros now it would be worse with 2 withdrawn.

What's the peak train requirement of the T&W Metro?

Think its 42 sets so 84 units.

Crikey. I would have thought the system would have needed more than three spare sets...

I know but I could be wrong so don't quote me on it.

Meanwhile.... 4001 sits in SG looking like a mess. Wonder if they're holding 4001 back ready to couple to 4002.
I'm not sure about that, as much as I'd like a go on 4001/4002 (had a brief encounter with 4001 a few months back) and the free (I gather) afternoon tea (hopefully scones, nom) I can't really be bothered lol. That said it'd be a good opportunity to get the Jesmond-Manors branch in!
There was talk a while back, about the cab which was shown about and available to 'explore'.
No idea if it is the same one, but there is a cab at the Stephenson Railway Museum.

I remember it being 'full size', with the one at the museum being cut down/smaller - but thought it worth sharing.

iirc that's just a mock-up with a trailer hitch on the rear.
