What a time for delays..................
Tyne and Wear Metro
There are minor delays to trains running between Heworth and South Shields and South Hylton due to a technical fault. Please leave extra time for your journey.

Thanks for the info.
Are they just doing the same as Central?, i was hoping upstairs where the ticket machines are, that area would be done to, its a mess at Heworth, the whole station needs doing.
Will they be doing the upstairs in Central to?

I imagine it will be based on the Haymarket

Wonder how they're going to go about it? Unlike Central Station and Haymarket, I doubt they're going to be able to get away with telling people to walk from Felling or Pelaw? And with the platforms not having ticket machines, like the closures at Howdon, would they be able to close just one platform and exit via the Northern Rail platform?

I'd imagine if there is any planned possessions of the line, then any work which needs doing which would require platform closure would hopefully be done then but its a good question you have posed there. Pelaw/Felling are not a million miles away from Heworth for people to walk or the alternative would be get a train that will take you in the opposition direction you are going then change at Pelaw/Felling to head the way you were planning too.
I for one hope those automatic doors get fixed once and for all, would not be surprised if Vandalism has played a part but they always seem to be broken(most of them anyways) whenever I go pass them.

Felling is a good 25 minute walk from Hewort for someone fit and healthy.
At least there are regular bus services stopping on Sunderland road now, though, unlike 20 years ago, when the prevailing T&W PTE thought was that bus services should not directly compete with the metro at all.

And I don't know if the points still exist, but back in the old days, before the Sunderland extension, the yellow and red lines stopped at Heworth, which necessitated the train switching track as it approached Heworth, so it could turn round.
Now, I don't know if that change over is still possible, or if there is an equivalent set of points between Heworth and Pelaw, but it there is, that might make closing one platform at a time possible.
Obviously will be more complicated when it comes to the concourse. How was that managed at Haymarket when that was completely rebuilt up top?

You can't just assume it's a signalling problem. Signals will automatically fall to danger if there's something like a track circuit failure, points failure, level crossing failure etc.
Alternatively the signalling centre will be able to hold signals at danger, if, for example, there's an emergency possession required, trespassers reported etc.
Of course this isn't ruling out signal failures but I'm just saying it isn't ALWAYS the case if you're held at a red.

I'm on my phone so can't really check dates and if they started after de-reg - but the 51/52 went along Sunderland Road.
There was also the Bill Quay service (60?) that went along there.
All went to/from Gateshead and Heworth.
Before the Metro, I am sure the 93/94 travelled along Sunderland Road, using Carlise Street.

When I lived near the metro station, late 80s, early 90s there was very little. Generally had to walk up (and it really was up!) to Felling Square for a bus service with a decent frequency. besr in mind that there were 3 metros every 10 minutes through Felling, back then, so even a bus every 10 minutes represented a frustrating wait, in comparison!
Definitely no buses along Carlisle street, at that point. They'd probably have been pelted with rocks if they did, mind.

The 51/52 were certainly heading along that way then. Every 30mins off memory.
Think the 60 ran until the early 90's.
Ps Have a look along the square now. Went through there the other day and got a surprise.

Hello,
Might seem a silly question but just out of interest - does anybody know who the uniform supplier is for Metro?
Thank you.

I think Richard meant the company who sell the uniforms, as opposed to their employer.

As a cyclist I would love this to work but the infrastructure isn't there and is too limited it wont work.
Wheelchairs and pushchairs don't use the correct bay is that enforced? No! Bet you cycles will be enforced.
