Used to go to Heworth and Wardley when it was the old 648/649

Wonder if GNE would think about giving it another try
(17 Jun 2021, 7:51 am)Kuyoyo wrote [ -> ]Good luck with extending the 16/16a to Sunderland - that would add 2 hours to each journey and likely make it impossible to work it so all driver reliefs take place at Consett (as currently a full 16/16A cycle is 4 hours 30 minutes). Likewise, they is only 15 B5LHs - Consett will need 10 for the 16/16A (9 branded plus one spare) which leaves 5 - not enough for the 25 (PVR 6).

From my calculations it's about 10 minutes longer end to end in comparison to that of the 78 which is also ran by Consett without any issues.

You could always split the allocation between both Deptford and Consett as similarly done with the Coast & Country between Chester-Le-Street/Consett.

Also there is the benefit of having a Cross-City-Service with the need to change buses in Durham which would potentially reduce journey times from A to B while creating direct links.

Would also give both the 16's/20's a much needed upgrade to Double Deck Operation with the Streetlites replacing older vehicles within the fleet further reducing fleet age.

I think CLS is possible for the remaining B5LHs although think it will just be for mixed use like scholars, 25 & X22 (alongside Versas as now with older deckers) and backups for 21 & X21.

The 25 will need to be Euro 6 as it enters Newcastle., the B5's are only euro 5.
Given the success of X11, what about service to the lakes. i.e My X87. The document also includes merging the X122 and 185 then extending to Brampton and extending the 681 from Alston to Nenthead

The problem with your X87 is there's no-where for the bus to go all day. It's easy in Scarborough because GoAhead have a depot down there. Across in Cumbria it's Stagecoach so unless you find some independant with the space (and it won't come free) then it's a bit of problem.

Also there's already a service I believe with Wright Brothers, the 888 I believe the number is.

This is my X87/487 idea. I also would run x81 all day every 1.5 hrs as well to allow the x87/487 drivers to get back the hexham without going over their hours. You could even interwork the x81 & 487.

The timings are a bit tight but could you extend the 487 and X87 from Penrith bus station to the railway station? The very rural nature of the 487 means it'll probably never be that busy, but extending to the railway station creates a useful connection for people travelling between Alston and the towns and cities along the West Coast Main Line.

One other issue is that Penrith isn't a particularly obvious attraction; it's just a fairly standard market town. Day trippers are more likely to want to visit places like Keswick or Windermere. Will they want to pay an extra Stagecoach fare (which are very expensive in the Lakes) to travel there? You could attempt to extend the service to somewhere more touristy, but then you'll have issues with drivers' hours and your 487, so it'd probably be more trouble than it's worth.
What about sending the 49's to Newcastle?

Personally, I don’t see any point in that as there are already plenty of buses trundling across the Tyne Bridge from Gateshead. Most passengers could easily change at the Metrocentre or Gateshead. It would probably increase the PVR as well.
Has any bus service ever used this route or anywhere close by.
(22 Jun 2021, 1:58 pm)ASX_Terranova wrote [ -> ]Has any bus service ever used this route or anywhere close by.
No as the routing between Sacriston and Burnhope would not be suitable for buses.
(22 Jun 2021, 1:58 pm)ASX_Terranova wrote [ -> ]Has any bus service ever used this route or anywhere close by.

Not sure what would be the point in that route. Whilst being largely unsuitable due to narrow country lanes, there's also a complete lack of bus stops - or places on those roads to serve, for that matter! You'd be lucky if you picked up a single passenger between Washington and Hexham.

The most logical routing for such a service, if there was ever such demand, would be via the Metrocentre, Blaydon, etc. I somehow don't think there'd be much demand... if any...
Is there anyway for the 29 to be merged with another service

It was a few years back when it was Nexus.
They merged it with the Nexus 23 and extended to Birtley and onwards to Washington.

When was that? I can't remember the 29 ever going any further south than Kibblesworth.

Can't remember the exact time but it was just after Deptfrod lost the yellow branded mpd off 26 (can't remember what the branding was on the yellow one as I blue one was magic roundabout) and before Nexus properly introduced the B branding for Nexus Bus.  As there was a B placed across the yellow MPD.  I'm sure SoloSR 625 arrived at Gateshead not long after with rhe NExusBus branding and that is 11 reg so epuldnhave been around 2010 I'd imagine.

The ex Black Cats MPD's were used and operated from Deptford on services 23 & 29.

Genuinely can't remember that at all.
Mustn't have lasted too long.
This is more of brand suggestion but i would brand the 49/49A either the West Gateshead Wanderer or the Dunston Dynamo.

I would also brand the 5 & 50, New 55 as Sea & City, paint the buses teal & pink. I would also renumber the H2 to 55 (the old 55 becoming the 36), with the new service going, Washington Galleries, Monkton Lane, Hebburn, Jarrow, Tyne Dock, Hospital, Harton Nook, Horsley Hill, Westoe, South Shields every 30 Mins.

You mean you'd merge the 5,50,and H2 together?

Isn't the H2 a nexus contract?

No just back the old 526 and extend from monkton Lane to washington and from horsley hill to south shields.

The Dunston Dynamo sounds like an NBA team.

Which City does the 55 proposal serve?
