Since when is the 22 getting extended to Whitley Bay?
(11 Feb 2022, 9:45 pm)OrangeArrow49 wrote [ -> ]Why is the 8 scrapped?

The 8 used to be a secured service (don't know whether it still is). It is a relic of an old circular service which operated prior to deregulation before the 7 was diverted away from Scotswood Road and Newcastle to serve the Metrocentre instead. It most likely existed, initially, to provide a service to factory workers at Vickers and various other factories along Scotswood Road, then to provide a service to Newcastle Business Park in later years. Now that most of the factories are closed, and office workers have adopted more flexible working patterns, the service has been probably deemed surplus to requirements.

To be honest, I'm surprised it's lasted for 36 years. It's had a good run.

I'm not sure exactly since when, but it's been discussed at the depot in recent weeks. Probably not the best idea for timekeeping but a good link which could spell the end of the Coaster 1.

If that happens that seems very odd - especially when they are withdrawing multiple routes.
What website are these changes on from vosa
 Link if possible.

You've answered your own question. Go to VOSA and put the registration number into the search box and the relevant change will show up.

Any hints on the 22 routing if this extension was to go ahead? I'm presuming cobalt & silverlink will still be served?
What’s the obsession with extending routes? Surely an extended route just reduces reliability?

The route is unchanged Throckley - Wallsend - Cobalt & Silverlink, so I guess it will either be the 309 route or more likely the 306/308 route. No idea where it will serve between Cobalt/Silverlink and Whitley Bay, but I assume Tynemouth will be served as Stagecoach apparently wants to compete with the Coaster 1 (I know competition is supposed to be over, but this is what I've heard).

Just sharing the information, and I agree entirely (as I said above) it's not a good idea for punctuality and reliability etc, but apparently Stagecoach want to compete with the Coaster 1 even if customers suffer because of it.

The registration effective 27th March has no mention of Whitley Bay though?
Which company will be getting the 18/32/35 during the day?
Is it possible that the 31 will replace the 32/32A in Montagu Estate the only section of it that doesn’t have enough bus. Quite easily done. The 30 could similarly replace the 35 that way neither would be replaced and no links would be lost. I’m sure both these routes have operated over these routes during road works..

No one except those involved in the tender knows.

It's only being renumbered and curtailed at Hillheads Estate. Are Stagecoach likely to be operating the new service?

Genuinely surprised at the return of the 100.

Was the Cobalt extension not originally due to funding from Cobalt?  Thought it might have returned to Four Lane Ends rather than terminate at Coach Lane.

They'd have to pay Nexus to serve FLE and it doesn't srve any purpose running there.

In fairness the Metro link was kinda of useful if it was promoted properly to get to Coach Lane Campus. Right now it's impossible to get there without a long walk or a Metro into Newcastle to then get a bus around the back roads of Heaton for 20 minutes or so.

If there was ticketing available (which as usual there isn't) it would be handy for students living in Jesmond who need to get to Coach Lane.
So the 71 is not withdrawn? There will be a 71, 72, 74, 75 and 76?
So will the 12 now go the same way into Wallsend as the 40?,which if it does that means the 12 and 40 will dupe each other from Wellbeck Road

Yes. The previous routing was a hangover from when it operated via Low Walker.

Stagecoach putting the 317 into Wallsend Interchange. A change I like

This was the decision of Nexus, not Stagecoach.
