Also, they're still short on drivers so not much point increasing the service.
I agree. Too many ‘bus spotters’ want changes for the sake of bus spotting. You ain’t going to find it with SNE.

It would seem Hartlepool at least for the time been is staying as it is as nothing so far as it would have been done at the same time.  The 36 been extended back to the Marina is a positive though as it currently just sits on Stockton Street or blocks the stands on Victoria Road while having a layover.     This is pretty much all positive changes though.

I aint no bus spotter

Only issue with that is the people on the new piece of route (and the existing route to be fair) are going to find a very odd 24/36 min split in their service… not that anyone would notice given the reliability of the 58 currently…

Same situation with the 12 and 13 in Sunderland. 12 is twice-hourly, 13 is thrice-hourly; combining to every 12 minutes.

The 12 is 3 times an hour, although the frequency is uneven . Leaves Doxford Park at 10/34/58 during day.

Yes always seemed a strange one, having the 12 the more frequent during the day but then the 13 being the one to run evenings/Sundays/bank hols.

Thought it was the other way round. Point still stands - very odd.

Must admit I'm not one who usually promotes cutting services but if it allowed the 12/13 would be much better every 15 minutes combined imo. The 3 minutes is barely noticeable on the combined sections but having a 30/30 service is much better than 12/24/24 or 24/36 timetables which is just confusing to remember. Nothing worse than uneven timetables imo.

Well unless things get better and upping it either obviously.

Also if the 13 didn't run in the evenings then Gilley Law wouldn't have a bus service.

Who’d have thought that someone working for another operator would be incorrect on cuts by another operator.[emoji850]

In fairness, there's still Covid money about currently. Stagecoach always made more money before the pandemic so they have more money to lose.

GNE definitely jumped the gun though since it's been extended 3 times now (maybe 4?) and made their first cuts way too early and didn't let the network rebuild - not that it would've made any difference due to lack of drivers. The Stagecoach Newcastle cuts, the only area done so far were quite substantial really (71 cut, 35 cut, 32/32A cut, 18 cut, frequency decreases allover etc.) especially when it's the most profitable area out of the network by a mile.

The Bus Recovery Grant funding has been extended again beyond October… My prediction was that service reductions would fall in line with the cancellation of BRG funding.

I suspect Stagecoach will hold out as long as possible while said funding is available - if it is then established that BSIP funding can be used to protect the current network (rather than as proposed to establish new links), then I’d hazard a guess that’s what Stagecoach and the local authorities will go for. It’s a safer bet for them.

Despite the desire from members of this forum to try something new rather than persevering with the current network, I don’t think many operators or local authorities are up for taking that risk. The local authorities in particular will have the main intention of retaining links because this is what current customers and local politicians will fight for.

Of course, I might be talking out my arse. Time will tell.

Hartlepool changes are there. Where it says ‘Teesside’, in the HTML table , click and change to Hartlepool. service 1 changing route in High Tunstall , plus an evening experimental service between Throston Grange and Seaton Carew.

Yeah have just seen it’s only recently been added but great news that it’s actually improvements rather than a decrease in services.  Other than the 1 getting an evening service it’s pretty much remaining the same which is great as most of the town has at least a half hourly service Monday - Saturday.   It’s only the villages of Dalton Piecy and Elwick which still have next to no service.
These stagecoach Sunderland changes must be coming soon. I hope they totally give the network a full refresh. New routes new route numbers and improved frequencies

Why change route numbers, the changes are mainly to even out to a 15 minute average, less 4's, 16's and 20's

Why change the route numbers? It doesn't feel to me that the network needs a refresh, but apparently the 18 is under threat (what a surprise).

We don’t need new route numbers. Some of the current route numbers have been established for years. We have seen the mess that route tinkering has done to GNE. As for the 18 route, surely some of it must be retained.

End of the month. also proposed is 10/11 lose a bus an hour, which still affords a very frequent service from Grangetown and Pallion. Bonus is a drive to remove the Manviros.
I think the 18 will become a secured service tbh, or maybe they'll make changes (split it into two routes?) - all I know is in its current state it's under threat. Thing is, like I said earlier, it connects the hospital with loads of places but the trouble is it's something of a magical mystery tour.

I've heard they're eyeing up more gas buses (presumably Scania Fencers) to replace them but whether that actually happens or not...

Yeah, good idea IMO. The current gas buses are lovely to drive, too. Having said that, apparently Stagecoach are meant to be all-electric by 2035, not quite sure how that's going to work given the regional nature of a lot of their other divisions.
