Anyone know why?, the 16 also does it.
It’s a tradition which is believed to have had roots to the days of tram operation in Sunderland. Back then, there would be a line-up of trams in Fawcett Street waiting for the whistle to send some northwards towards Southwick, Fulwell and Seaburn and some southwards towards Villette Road, Grangetown, Durham Road or Kayll Road.
This continued into the 1970s when the point inspector in the Central Bus Station would blow his whistle spot on 11pm and every last bus would shut its doors and race to the outer estates and back to either Hylton Road or Fulwell depots and in later years the Wheatsheaf.
Quite a quirky little thing that Stagecoach still do - not too sure what benefit it has!

Ah right!
Does seem pointless.

What is the contract minimum on the 99? Would a couple of Mercedes 516 from the TeesFlex fleet do? GCT used to usually operate it with Mercedes/Mellor minibuses

There’s no chance of any of the Flex Sprinters being taken from Stockton - the FLEX PVR is 9 including the Middlesbrough Vaccination Shuttle (that is worked by one of the 2 Stockton-based vehicles that would normally provide the Stockton and Darlington zone - majority of that zone at present is provided by Hartlepool). That only leaves 2 spares between the two depots - so if Sunderland need a Sprinter or two for the 99, they’ll need to ask elsewhere.

Ah, I thought there was more slack in the fleet, guess a couple of solos on their last legs are available somewhere!

GCT might have a couple going cheap if they're losing all their contracts!

Aye that's true
I’d hazard it will be a E200 - considering the 939 workings are also attached, increasing the number of Stagecoach working to Team Valley.
When 28031/40 returned to service they displaced 39671/3 into the reserve fleet- id guess one of them will just be put back on the main fleet if the PVR is to increase
Stagecoach have updated their information for the service changes
https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-up...:05:44:117
Also to note.. Stagecoach tickets aren't accepted on the 99, that seems a massive loss, because it would get people using the service... same as all the other NEXUS services.
Edit:
South Shields
Service 10, 11 – From 25 July, services extended from Jarrow to North Shields via Royal Quays, every 30 minutes each day, as per link below
Okay thay I did no expect. I'm surprised stagecoach in North Shields now. There starting to gain some ground
I think in my life thats the 1st time ive seen Stagecoach run to North Shields, that'll cause some confusion with GNE's 11,it also explains why the 319 has been pulled

is this replacing the 319 or running as well.

Replacing the 319 which is withdrawn from 25th July

Seems like the Cobalt extensions are cancelled on the same date aswell replaced to North Shields, unsure if that's better routing but that's upto Nexus.
I hope its a success,i dont know if its just that section of route that struggles its been (in order) 310,9,319,9,5,then 319 again

So how many additional vehicles will be required for the route extension to North Shields? Maybe the ferry replacement bus service will no longer be required whenever the ferry isn't running?

Only 1 id imagine, sometimes at night the 319 does the an end to end in less than 10 mins, might be able to use 1 spare but aren’t any in for repaints at the moment?
Finally, Stagecoach in North Shields. GNE maybe going to respond with their own improvements? Bizarre how buses don't return to Bedford Street on the return journey. North Shields has a lot of buses for such a small town.

Only one between 07:52 to 14:06 and after 16:43. No change in the morning / evening peak by the looks of things as it's replacing the Cobalt runs.

It's still half hourly until late in the evening so you'd still need an extra bus.
Seems to do South Shields -> North Shields -> Jarrow -> North Shields -> South Shields in the evening.
It is interesting to see if stagecoach will extend more routes or create new routes futher into North Tyneside
The 10/11 I didn't expect at all going to North Shields. I was half expected for GNE to extend there 5 or 26 into North Shields
Information about the 19
New Service 19: Following customer requests, we are pleased to introduce an experimental new service linking the north estates with Seaburn. New service 19 will link Castletown, Hylton Castle, Downhill, Red House and Southwick with the coast, running hourly every day across the summer holidays between approx. 1100 and 1700.
Wonder what there going to use for this service
The new 10/11 timetable is up on the nexus website to download
The map is now updated on bus org for the 10/11 South Shields
(12 Jul 2021, 7:26 pm)OrangeArrow49 wrote [ -> ]On the contrary. North Shields has experienced a great loss of bus services in recent years through the hands of GNE and Arriva. Local services have gone, leaving stretches of road which once had frequent buses without any service at all. Direct links to Sunderland, Blyth, Backworth, Monkseaton and Gosforth have been lost. And now Arriva ae cutting the frequency of the 306 and 308. By the way, how small do you think North Shields is? For years it was the second biggest town north of the Tyne, second only to Newcastle.
