I don't know, but I feel the 8 and 23 will be frequency reductions. Hopefully they're sorting out the 3's timetable which is beyond ridiculous.

Could it just be the route changes around Burdon Rd ( Vine Place/Holmside eastbound permanent closure)

That is entirely possible and I hadn't thought of that. I guess time will tell, if the rest of our services go up too.

Looks like route changes around Burdon Rd as I thought
And wishful thinking on my part regarding the 3

They need to get a few more E400s ideally. The fleet is stretched enough with schools taking service buses out.
So Arriva won't operate any 685s from 10th December onwards?

There's also a 22nd January date floating around although that might not come from a trusted source, sadly ......LOL.

Do these pre-Christmas Sunday services from Stagecoach work? I'm not sure how much general awareness there is from the public that these services exist, in that people just assume that they don't run on a Sunday as they don't normally at other parts of the year.

First time in 2 years?, they've ran leading up to Christmas, can't remember if they were well used or not, hopefully they are.

If they are successful and have been in the past, it makes me wonder why they've not at least tried out a permanent Sunday service all year round.

Sunday journeys used to be busy towards Newcastle until about 2pm then virtually empty thereafter and vice versa. Virtually empty until 2pm from Newcastle then busy thereafter
Still think they better off with hourly services on Xmas Sundays and interwork at Newcastle.
Then possibly look at other Sundays. Similar with Bank Holidays. Was successful prior to covid but never returned on bank holidays after covid.
Even if both the X24 and X34 was hourly on a Sunday, I think they'll still get decent passengers - could run between 9:30am and 6pm.

The biggest problem is both very one way with nothing in the opposite direction. So you might have 15 people heading towards Newcastle; there's going to be no-one going in the opposite direction and the opposite later on. There's also very little in between on both aswell. So you won't have many short hop fares.
Monday to Friday you have the X24A taking people to Doxford Park and the X34 taking people to work in the Boldon Colliery area.

Is that not the case with quite a number of services, though? It's quite common to be busy towards Newcastle in the morning and busy coming out of Newcastle in the afternoon. I suppose the issue would be whether the busy journeys would balance out the cost of the quiet ones, but as I say other services do seem to survive with that kind of similar passenger pattern.

First I've heard about this too. Nowt on DVSA about it either.
Possibly someone getting their wires crossed with it being ran out of the Arriva cabins?
The 685 is already ran out of Walkergate by Arriva. Its possible as heard from a lot of people Arriva were called to a meeting either last week or this week to discuss the running of the 44/45/51/52/53/54/55
Shocker is they never turned up to the meeting. Nexus were there as well
they were called to a meeting to discuss the reliability of the 44/45 with residents of dinnington and wideopen
no idea what the 685 or 51/52/53/54/55 have to do with it?

It's not really changed that often
Was GNE then GCT now SNE after a few years.
Also effective 12th Dec. Pretty quick that. Have GCT given up? Possibly concentrating more on Durham area services as very little South Shields.

Driver availability an issue for GCT, perhaps, following recent DCC tender awards, and terminated their contract for service 516 early?
