Interesting - do you know where it went? Or even better a copy of the timetable?

It must have been extremely short-lived for it not to appear in any of the TWPTE guides given, after de-reg, some of them were updated three times a year.

Same time service X14 was withdrawn and replaced with new service 139/140 with using the same route of old service X14 between moorside and Sunderland bus station.

I think the 10 (or 110) must have replaced it at some point too.
The route went (from Toward Road) via Villette Road, Ryhope Road, The Cedars, Ashbroke Range, Queen Alexandra Road, Sea View Road West, Hill View Road, Hereford Road, Westheath Avenue, Woodstock Avenue and Leechmere Road.
That seems similar to the route the 10 operates (or operated) now.

Don't have the timetable for it.
maybe some of the older drivers at wheatsheaf depot might remember the service.
It was a weekend service between Sunderland and Seaburn ran by the sunderland busways open topper.
the seasonal service 22 was the original service, ran by Sunderlands open topper and South Shields (Economic) open topper the full route between shields and sunderland, but one year at the end the Economic service 22 only ran between shields and whitburn, while Sunderland operated between Sunderland and Seaburn, then Stagecoach turned up and withdrew the service.
Can anybody remember service 26 from the north Estates to Seaburn Camp (sundays only) which ran seasonal each year for a few years, then one year Sunderland Busways put on a new service 26 from Sunderland to Seaburn Camp to compete against Catch-A-Bus service 6, then when the summer started, there renumbered the North Estates to Seaburn Camp as service 36.

service 110 took over service 101 between villette road and grangetown. while service 139/140 took over service 110 between villette road and grangetown via Stockton road.
any older members on here remember service 104/105 getting extended from town to villette path (service 105) and to corporation road (104) or was it service 111 terminating at corporation road while service 104 went to grangetown. might of getting service 104 and 111 mixed up there abit.

They've updated the ones round Town End Farm. It was odd seeing a 12 and a 13 on the timetable at Baxter Road yesterday...

That's alright, least they've started...
I'm currently on the 18, going to be weird going up Grindon Lane towards the Grindon Mill....hasn't been a bus up that way for over 10 years....
It seems the 18 doesn't serve Grindon shops now, Gartland road, it comes out from Tay road and turns on to Gleneagles Road.
Talk about a mystery tour...

As I said, I wasn't too familiar with services on Wearside in this period, but it goes to show there was definitely a '1', post 86.
Any idea if it was the 1 you were referring to?

In those days number blinds used to get broken etc... , the picture of the favourite bus would of terminated at Sunderland and the driver scrolled either the 3 or 4 number blind to blank on going back to depot, this was standard in the busways era

I can remember the blinds well, but hadn't realised this example had blanked off.
Either way, he isn't going to get very far with that Mini Metro parked in the way!

The favourite bus is at the depot at Lyons industrial estate at hetton, shared with Durham travel services, I remember across the road from the industrial estate that there stored a lot of the Newcastle busways Atlanteans with the favourite sticker covering the Newcastle busways signs, also old Armstrong galley buses.

That's seemingly as far as they got with replacing timetables...
The stops on Grindon Lane all read 'Scholars Services Only', there is no mention of services 18/19 on the stops along Hylton Road, the stops around Doxford Park have not been updated to show the 12, and the stop outside of Sainsbury's on Silksworth Lane has now gone through two lots of service changes (Go North East's a fortnight ago, and now Stagecoach North East's yesterday) hasn't been updated either.
Punters at Sainsbury's will be thinking they have service 12 every 10 minutes to Vicarage Farm Estate and a 99 every hour!

Temporary closure of Durham Road, affecting services 3, 4, 19 and 23
15 Jun 2016
From 1800 on Saturday 9 July until late on Sunday 10 July 2016, Sunderland City Council will need to close a section of Durham Road due to urgent gas works.
This closure will be in place on the eastbound carriageway, between the junction of Ettrick Grove and The Barnes gyratory from approximately 1800 on Saturday 9 July until late on Sunday 10 July. When the road is reopened, buses will return to normal routes.
Services will only be affected when heading towards town. These eastbound buses will be diverted along Premier Road and Silksworth Lane, rejoining original route at The Barnes gyratory.
Buses will therefore be unable to observe stops around the Prospect and Sunderland College area, although all stops will be observed along the line of the diversionary route.
Clearly, whilst we will be attempting to operate Services 3, 4, 19 and 23 in accordance with published timetables, there is nonetheless the potential that some trips may be subject to delay.
Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause, and we remain grateful for customers’ patience and understanding
Sunderland:
Closure of Claxheugh Road, South Hylton - Tuesday 12 July to Thursday 14 July 2016 - affecting Service 8
30 Jun 2016
The closures will be in place from 08:00 to 18:00
While the closure is in place, buses will divert straight down Hylton Bank, omitting South View and Rosemount (downhill direction), and will then follow Greenbank Drive and Rosemount in an uphill direction. Railway Terrace and South Hylton Metro Station will not be served. Customers are able to travel across the terminus during the closure period.
Clearly, whilst we will be attempting to operate Service 8 in accordance with published timetables, there is nonetheless the potential that some trips may be subject to delay.
Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause, and we remain grateful for customers’ patience and understanding.

39 will be in someway linked to the extra fifth bus during the week currently being a decker off schools which will need a working revision before September.
Details now avaliable:
Service 13: The 0826 from Hemlington (currently worked as far as Middlesbrough by a decker off Macmillans in term time and the Asda bus in school holidays including Monday/Tuesday when the bus goes straight back to the depot) will now be worked by one vehicle and thus no longer requires a change of vehicle in Middlesbrough
Service 14: A new earlier journey is introduced from Middlesbrough to Baldoon Sands at 0704, arriving at 0730. The afternoon schoolday-only duplicate is withdrawn
Service 39 (no timetable as of yet): Revised timetable, reported to mainly be with the afternoon peak (nothing yet regarding the daytime workings with the fifth vehicle currently being a school decker).
Closure of Southwick Road - Thursday 11 August 2016 and Friday 12 August 2016 - affecting Services 3, 4, 12, 13 and 16
19 Jul 2016
The closure will take place on Thursday 11 August 2016 and Friday 12 August 2016, between 0800 and 1800, at the junction of Wallace Street
During the closure period, buses will need to be diverted along Keir Hardie Way, rejoining original route from the junction with Southwick Road, in both directions
Unfortunately, as there are no stops along the diversionary route, customers are advised to use the stop adjacent to the Stadium of Light and the stop on the Southwick side of the junction of Southwick Road/Keir Hardie Way

The every 9 minutes frequency now until 1420 (presently ends 1353) then drops to every 10 minutes until 1700 (and each bus gets 10 minutes in the bus station at this point). Between 1700 and 1800, the frequency drops to every 12 (presently every 11 from 1400). There's then departures at 1820 and 1835 before reverting to current timings.

Holmeside to reopen to eastbound buses, from Saturday 30 July 2016
Following changes to the Holmeside works program by Sunderland City Council, buses will be able to return to their normal eastbound routes along Vine Place and Holmeside from Saturday 30 July 2016.
As a consequence, diverted services X1, 3, 4, 5 (evening and Sundays), 10, 11, 12, 13, 16 and 23 will also revert to their normal eastbound bus stops along Vine Place, and will therefore no longer observe their temporary bus stops along Stockton Road.
