These changes take place today
Minor changes to Service 20 from Monday 19 June 2017

To more closely reflect prevailing levels of traffic congestion along Hylton Road, the Monday to Friday morning timetable is revised, with a number of trips running up to 5 minutes earlier before 1000am.

There are no other changes to Service 20, which will continue to operate up to every 10 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes, every 20 minutes on Sunday daytimes, and every 30 minutes during each evening.

We have been advised by Sunderland Council that Pallion New Road will need to be closed each evening/ overnight between Monday 12 June and Sunday 2 July 2017 to enable road resurfacing works to be carried out in a safe and controlled environment.

Changes to 18, 38 & X63 due to Killingworth Road closure for several months


Service 18
  • Towards Four Lane Ends/Benton Estate - Buses will follow the normal route to the Freeman Hospital and will then divert back via Freeman Road, Newton Road, Cragside and Benton Road to Four Lane Ends Interchange. Some buses will then continue to Benton Estate via Benton Lane, Goathland Avenue and Hailsham Avenue. Buses will operate non-stop from the Freeman Hospital (northbound stop) to Benton Road (junction with Cragside) before calling at all stops to Four Lane Ends/Benton Estate.

  • Towards Walker - Buses which start at Benton Estate will follow the normal route to Four Lane Ends Interchange. All buses from Four Lane Ends will then divert via Benton Lane and Benton Park Road to South Gosforth Roundabout from where they will follow the normal route again. Buses will call at all stops on Benton Park Road (westbound) between Four Lane Ends Interchange and South Gosforth Roundabout.

Service 18 will be unable to travel via the BT Call Centre or Longbenton Estate (Stoneleigh Avenue) in either direction. Passengers travelling to/from these locations are advised to transfer to/from service 62 or the use special shuttle service 118 at Four Lane Ends Interchange.


Service 118
  • Four Lane Ends to/from BT Call Centre - As service 18 will be unable to serve Longbenton Estate (Stoneleigh Avenue) or the BT Call Centre, a special shuttle bus has been provided by Nexus (service 118). This service will run every 20 minutes, Monday to Saturday daytime between 07:45 and 17:40. This service will provide passengers travelling to/from these locations the opportunity to connect with other services at Four Lane Ends Interchange.

Service 38
  • Towards Whickham View/Newcastle - Buses from Quorum Business Park at 20:16 and 21:16 (Monday to Friday) and from the BT Call Centre at 18:21 (Saturday), will follow the normal route through to Salters' Lane before diverting via West Farm Avenue, Benton Lane and Benton Park Road. At South Gosforth Roundabout buses will follow the normal route again. Services will operate non-stop from Salters' Lane to Freeman Road.

Service X63
  • Towards Newcastle - Buses will follow the normal route to Salters' Lane before diverting via West Farm Avenue, Benton Lane and Benton Road. Buses will then travel non-stop to Market Street East in Newcastle city centre. Buses will call at all stops on West Farm Avenue, then Benton Lane/Rushall Place, Benton Road Shops (south bound) and then Market Street East only.

  • Towards Killingworth - Buses will commence journeys in Newcastle city centre at New Bridge Street West before operating non-stop to Benton Road shops. Services will then run directly from Benton Road Shops via Benton Lane to re-join the normal route at Quorum Business Park. Buses will call at stops on New Bridge Street West (outside Halifax), Benton Road Shops (northbound) and then all stops on Benton Lane (northbound).

Service X63 will be unable to serve the BT Call Centre or Balliol Business Park on all journeys towards Killingworth. Passengers travelling to these locations are advised to transfer onto service 62 at Benton Road Shops. In Newcastle city centre this service will not serve the usual stops on Barras Bridge, Percy Street, or Blackett Street.

Don't remember the consultation saying anything about the 10A being axed?
I wonder maybe if the 10/10a aren't going to be consolidated into one registration rather than having two separate ones.

I wonder out of curiosity where all of these 'improvements' are coming from. I am not sure if Stagecoach is telling local teams to make cost-cuttings or whether it is the local commercial team and new managing director....
It'll be interesting to see where they're going to revise the route of the 3 to give it the extra time to get across to Clavering and back, as the current timetable shows it as only having a minute layover at each end of the route

Don't think extending the 3 over to Clavering was mentioned, though I suggested it here and on the consultation. 

Also terminating the 36 at Hartlepool town centre is new I think. I presume it'll do the current evening route via Park Road.

I'm not sure they've ever been touted as improvements. Stagecoach prefer to say 'revisions to reflect changing traveling patterns'. 

Well the postal response address for the Teesside consultation was Wheatsheaf, so that tells you that who's making the decisions.

Reduced Sunday service on Newcastle expresses. 12s to 10 mins. Minor timetable adjustments on the rest for reliability.
A Stagecoach employee has commented on a Hartlepool community forum that the new route of the 3 will extend from Bishop Cuthbert, through Clavering, full length of King Owsy Drive to West View Rd/Davison Dr then over Saxon Roundabout & A179 to complete the loop at Middle Warren Sainsbury's.
Times are now available on Traveline:

1: Middlesbrough departure times are now xx15/xx45
10: Departing Middlesbrough at xx15, xx35 (same as Arriva's 28a) and xx55
12: departures are: xx09, xx21, xx33, xx45 and xx57
13: retimed to run a minute later from Middlesbrough (Hemlington departures are xx00/xx30, Salters Lane xx05/xx35)
14: departures now xx20 and xx50
34: will depart Middlesbrough at xx23 and xx53
34a: departures from Middlesbrough are xx08 and xx38
35: seems just the High Grange secition is being dropped, Traveline suggests the rerouting in Wolviston Court has been dropped
39: dropped to every ten minutes leaving the bus station at 03/13/23/33/43/53 past, seems no change to the PVR but improved turn around time at Park End
52: Stockton departures are the same times as the 34/34a departures from Middlesbrough
58: will leave the town centre at xx00 etc
And further, the cutting back of the 36 will see additional running time added. So, at present, the only confirmed vehicle reduction at Stockton is the one freed by the reduction of the 10/11 to just the 10 every 20 minutes.

Indeed, judging by the timing available via Traveline, the PVR breakdown is as followed:
10: 4 (down from 5)
12: looks to be 7, could still be 8
13: 5
14: 2 (down from combined 6 on 14/34)
34/34a: 5
35: likely to be 2 and standalone
36/37/38: 16
39: 5
52: likely to be 5 (down two from the present 7 on 52/35)
58: 4 (unchanged from the current 58/35)
59/61: 6

They said at the Stockton bus forum the 35 will stand alone.

That's convenient with four Darts left!
Hartlepool's upcoming evening 7s are on an odd timetable!

Southbound, buses run Middlegate to Owton Manor, as per daytime - simple. 

Northbound, buses terminate in the town centre (York Road), then continue to Clavering as service 6. Upon returning as a 6, buses terminate at Grand Hotel where they then pick up the other half of the 7 they earlier abandoned. 

The outcome is passengers on the 7 which intend to travel north across the town will be booted off at York Road and will have 9 minutes to complete a quarter-mile walk to pick up the second half of the 7.  

Confusion also arrises as the drop-off stands for the 6 are completely separate from the pick-up stands. I can't see this helping sustainability of these evening services. 

I can't help a better way of working would have been the have the 7 stand alone and add the 6 onto the end of the 36. This way everything could match their daytime routes and daytime stops, other than the 36 dropping off at York Rd rather than Park Rd. PVR could be the same too, as the extra 37 mins added the the 36 by returning to Clavering could be covered by 1 extra bus, if the 36/37/38 were to all interwork at Middlesbrough.

Northbound, buses terminate in the town centre (York Road), then continue to Clavering as service 6. Upon returning as a 6, buses terminate at Grand Hotel where they then pick up the other half of the 7 they earlier abandoned. 

The outcome is passengers on the 7 which intend to travel north across the town will be booted off at York Road and will have 9 minutes to complete a quarter-mile walk to pick up the second half of the 7.  

Confusion also arrises as the drop-off stands for the 6 are completely separate from the pick-up stands. I can't see this helping sustainability of these evening services. 

I can't help a better way of working would have been the have the 7 stand alone and add the 6 onto the end of the 36. This way everything could match their daytime routes and daytime stops, other than the 36 dropping off at York Rd rather than Park Rd. PVR could be the same too, as the extra 37 mins added the the 36 by returning to Clavering could be covered by 1 extra bus, if the 36/37/38 were to all interwork at Middlesbrough.

BIB: the evening runs on 36/37/38 don't interwork with each other in Middlesbrough on an evening - the 36 and 37 are stand alone using 4 and 1 respectively while the 38 interworks with the 12.
They could easily change it.
