Disruptions due to Summer Festival Parade on Saturday 5 July 2014

We have been advised that the Summer Festival Opening Parade will be taking place on Saturday 5 July 2014.

Last Updated: 30 June 2014 11:42 AM

To ensure health and safety is maintained, Ocean Road and parts of Sea Road will need to be closed between approximately 1230 – 1430.

During affected times, Service E1 and the Open Top City Sightseeing buses will be required to divert between South Shields Town Centre and New Crown Hotel via Anderson Street, Beach Road, Salisbury Place, Sea Way and Bents Park Road in both directions, observing all stops along the line of the diversionary route.

In addition, all services in the town may also be temporarily delayed by a rolling road closure along Fowler Street, or may be diverted away from the affected area. As a consequence of these road closures, buses are likely to be unable to serve the bus stops at Keppel Street, Fowler Street or Town Hall between approx 1230 - 1330, with all bus services in the town diverting via Station Road.

Although our local authority colleagues will endeavour to ensure that the impact on bus services is as limited as possible, there is still likely to be significant traffic congestion in the town centre area and along Ocean Road.

Due to the various road closures, and the congestion that will be created due to traffic displacement, all bus services may be subject to delay, or may be temporary diverted around the affected areas. Stagecoach apologise for any inconvenience or delays this event may cause, which is due to circumstances beyond our control.

Services Affected: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 30, E1, E2, E6, X20

Temporary westbound closure of Durham Road, affecting Services 3, 4, 23

On Sunday 10 August 2014, Durham Road will be closed to westbound traffic at the Tudor Grove junction whilst the carriageway is resurfaced.

Last Updated: 22 July 2014 2:03 PM

These roadworks are programmed to be in place during Sunday 10 August 2014 only, between approximately 0800 and 1800.

During the periods of the road closure, Service 3, 4, and 23 buses towards Thorney Close, Farringdon and Doxford Park will be required to divert from Barnes Park non-stop via Silksworth Lane and Premier Road. Buses will thus be unable to serve their westbound stops along Durham Road between Barnes Park and the Prospect junction.

Northbound Service 3, 4 and 23 buses (towards Sunderland City Centre) will be unaffected by these works.

Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience these temporary works authorised by Sunderland City Council may cause, and we remain grateful for customers’ patience and understanding.

Last Updated: 23 July 2014 6:42 PM

These roadworks are programmed to be in place during Sundays 3 and 10 August 2014, between approximately 0700 and 1800.

During the periods of the road closure, southbound Services 3, 4, 13, 16, 23, E1, E2 and E6 will be required to operate non-stop via West Wear Street and High Street West into John Street.

I've mentioned it to Go North East; as I said before, the council has not discussed the works with Go North East yet.

Clearly Stagecoach has pestered the council a lot more than Go North East.

Clearly Stagecoach has pestered the council a lot more than Go North East.

It says:

In our most recent discussions, we have been able to agree with Sunderland City Council for the bridgehead to remain open, as a “bus only route” during the main daytime period of Sunday 17 August 2014, during which period it will be closed to all other traffic.

Soooo least Stagecoach have tried... GNE will wait till last minute like always and they will claim to of only known from that day..

Go North East has tried too. I'd actually say they're pretty good at keeping customers informed well in advance, and it's quite unusual for them to give less than week's notice in this case.

Like I say, when I gave them the head's up about it, they would have got in touch with the council then - but clearly got no where.

Stagecoach would have only received this information today, otherwise they would have had it on the website sooner. How do we know that Go North East hasn't just received the same information today too?
(08 Aug 2014, 7:55 pm)AIG20 wrote [ -> ]I wonder how much it will effect the PVR/layover time on these services, as they may include shorter breaks for the drivers and more/less buses may be needed.

In addition, if the whole of "North Bridge Street" is closed on the evenings it may make it much harder for the buses to get to and from the depot.

The whole area, like the road and the roundabout/bridge should be done soon, leaving only the square left... i'm hoping they open both roads, including the new road leading to the car park while still working on the new square... and not waiting till the square is done to open it fully..

This is a joke. I don't blame the operators for trying to make do of a bad situation, but the fact the council have not thought about public transport operations at all here. It's an absolute disgrace that they haven't consulted with Go North East yet, despite them (along with Stagecoach) being a major stakeholder here.

Its the same in Middlesbrough and Stockton. The Councils shut off major bus routes at the drop of a hat for any excuse.

We have been advised that the "Sunderland Pride Carnival" parade will take place through the City Centre on Sunday 28 September 2014.

Last Updated: 12 September 2014 11:34 AM

To ensure health and safety is maintained, a number of roads will have to be subject to a ‘rolling road closure’, and this will have a substantial effect on bus services.

The parade is scheduled to commence from the Civic Centre at approx 1200, and parade via Burdon Road, Park Road, Toward Road, Borough Road, Fawcett Street, High Street West, St Michaels Way (southbound), Green Terrace, Vine Place and Stockton Road to Park Lane, arriving by no later than 1300.

Although our local authority colleagues will endeavour to ensure that the impact on bus services is as limited as possible, there is nonetheless likely to be traffic congestion in the city centre area, and this may result in disruption to bus services.

During the temporary rolling road closures, buses will normally be required to wait behind the parade, or may use an alternative route if the congestion becomes too severe. As a consequence buses may be subject to delay, or may be temporary diverted around the affected area. As a consequence, buses might not be able to access their normal bus stops in the City Centre area during the parade.

Stagecoach apologise for any inconvenience or delays that this parade may cause, which is due to circumstances beyond our control.

Roadworks at Sunderland Wheatsheaf bus stop, affecting Services 3, 4, 13, 16, E2

From Wednesday 1 October 2014, Sunderland City Council will be undertaking works to improve accessibility at the southbound bus stop at Wheatsheaf.

Last Updated: 30 September 2014 10:15 PM

These works, which will straighten out the kerbline and install a long shelter, are scheduled to be in place for upto 4 weeks.

Whilst there is likely to be some localised disruption to traffic, a temporary bus stop will be located adjacent to the works area.

Stagecoach would like to apologise for any inconvenience or delays these works may cause.

Anyone have any idea on the Stockton/Boro changes in December?
(03 Oct 2014, 5:56 pm)Michael wrote [ -> ]Anyone have any idea on the Stockton/Boro changes in December?

I know some, but there's only a few that can truely be revealed:

As you might be able to tell from the starting dates, service 58 and 61 will be reintroduced on evenings and Sundays on an hourly bases. As such, evening and Sunday 59s will no longer operate round Hardwick and instead will terminate at North Tees Hospital. An interworking pattern of 59/61/58 is planned - not as good as the old 'Magic Roundabout' evening pattern of years gone by but still. Although the 13 is also listed as the change starting on the Sunday (30th November), not sure yet whether that is also operating evenings/Sundays.
